10 Mountain Dew Stars
KylandMia Sheridan10 beautiful Mountain Dew Stars!!So I was super excited when I heard that Mia was doing another book, I mean we just had Calder and Eden. So she posts that a book is coming, oh look so cool. Then she posts the cover, and well lets just say that this cover makes you stop and stare. You literally stop what you are doing just to sit down and stare. I actually stared straight in his eyes and I could have sworn he would have started to talk to me. Delusional, maybe just a little bit. But I couldn’t wait for what was to come. This story is a story of dreams, sacrifice, poverty, hope, trust, fear, longing, heartbreak, loss, survival and most importantly undeniable loveDirt poor. Hillbilly. Backwoods hick. Mountain folk. That is the first thing you read you see the blurb and you are thinking, really. It isn’t that bad is it. It really was and so much more.In the middle of rolling green hills, breathtaking mountain views, waterfalls, and quaint covered bridges, lies Dennville, Kentucky, a part of the Appalachian Mountains that would put any urban slum to shame, where hoplessness is as commonplace as the white oak trees, and unemployment is the rule more so than the exception.Tenleigh Falyn is one of those who struggle each day just to survive. She lives in a small trailer nestled in a grove of pine trees with her sister and mother. She wants out. I mean who doesn’t want out of this kind of life. She dreams of bigger and better. She dreams of making something of her life and the only way out are to win a college scholarship. She has her heart set on winning and nothing and no one will get in her way. Well till, Kyland.Of course, I’d seen him before that. I’d bet everyone who was female had let their eyes linger on him, with his strikingly handsome face, and his tall, sold build. But that was the first time I really saw him, the first time I felt a throb of understanding in my chest for the boy who always seemed to wear an expression of nonchalance, as if he didn’t care much for anyone of anything.Kyland Barrett lives in the poor part of Dennville. Not to far from Tenleigh. He knows heartache, after losing his father and brother in a mining accident. He has one thing on his mind and one thing only to get the hell out of Dennville and never ever look back. He, too is going for that scholarship, just one little problem. Only one person can win it!“How are you going to win the scholarship when I’m going to win the scholarship?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.Kyland looked over at me quickly, amusement on his face ads he shook his head.“Not a chance,” he said smirking. “But it does make things more interesting, doesn’t it?”I snorted softly. I didn’t’ need interesting. I needed that scholarship. So now the battle lines have been drawn. Kyland Vs Tenleigh. This is going to be so much fun. What starts as an adversary, escalates into a nice friendship. A friendship where they tease each other, try to better the other and always always wants to be that one that ups the other. If for nothing else than to have bragging rights! What happens next shocks both of these two beautiful souls. Love. A love that is young, a love that is all so consuming, a love that you know will never go away no matter what you do, a love that you know deep down inside has to end sooner rather than later. My breath came out of my mouth in sharp pants as I attempted to get hold of my racing heart. I didn’t need him to stay here. I didn’t need him to feel indebted to me for any reason. But I did need him to kiss me. Right that very second. I moved my eyes to his lips and let out another harsh whoosh of air. Kyland made a strangled, groaning sound in his throat and moved his lips right up against mine. “I’m leaving this place behind when I go. Everything about this place. Even you.”With those words their future sealed. What happens when the one you love is trying to get the one thing you know you need to survive? What happens when you scarfice your happiness for the one you love? What happens when the one who holds your heart leaves you? You get Kyland. You get a love story that will make you sigh, will make your heart flutter and also rip it out, it will make you cry, it will make you laugh, it will make you almost sell your Louis, it will make you look up Mountain Dew teeth and be scared for life, it will simply make you put down the book, look outside and just think.“Well, I do! And you don’t gt to take that from me. I love you, and you don’t get to say anything about it. Tehe love I feel for you is mine. And I’ll feel it if I want to.”“Tenleigh,” he repeated, his voice cracking. “Don’t love me. Please don’t love me. I can’t stay here. Don’t love me.”And that my friends is what Mia Sheridan is the best at what she does. She is the queen of words and I will bow down to her each and every time she writes a book. I also want to take this time to thank you, I thank you for your beautiful words, I thank you for having this amazing imagination and putting it into a story. I thank you for always making books about beautiful people who just want their voices to be heard. Your Awesome Lady!!

One of the most touchingly beautiful stories I've ever read
I could repost the synopsis to make sure you know what the book is about, but that barely touches the surface of this story.I could show you quotes of some of the most pivotal and heart breaking moments to lure you in, but that will fail to truly paint the beauty of this story.I can talk about how amazing this author is, but that will never come close to the reality of that statement.Instead I sit here completely floored and emotionally raw, while this beautiful, heartbreaking, gut wrenching, hopeful and selfless story continues to brand my heart over and over again…searing itself permanently into the very fabric of my soul. So, you see my dilemma. What is it one can say about a story like that that will truly show it justice? What words can I, a mere reader, convey that will tell the world, shouting from the very Appalachian Mountaintops in this book, that this is a story that will change your perception, enhance your life, alter your behavior, inspire your path and, ultimately, make you feel ashamed for never once realizing or remembering that everyone has a story and everyone deserves to have a voice? In a literary world riddled with books about affluence, fast cars, large bank accounts, fancy dinners, high paying jobs, getting the man, getting the girl, dominant and controlling alphas, and achieving success (many of which I have enjoyed), there is this author who writes about REAL people. The REAL people in REAL places, living REAL lives and living in the REALITY of often being forgotten, overlooked, underappreciated, devalued and unheard. This is her gift to the people it may represent, as she lifts up the downtrodden, gives them pride and shows them hope. And this is her gift to us, as she reminds us to acknowledge our blessings, remember those less fortunate and know that one person can, in fact, make a difference. This is Kyland and Tenleigh’s story….this is THEIR life….THEIR truth…THEIR VOICE!I read a review that said this book was full of “cheesy fluff.” Said that the book was focused solely on “the romance between the characters,” yet couldn’t feel “any connection to the characters or feel a spark between them.” At first, yeah, I sat there a bit shocked, wondering what book this reader read, then I was angry because she did not take the time to truly read the layers that only Mia Sheridan can give you. She weaves a story within a story within another story, and it seems that this reader only read the surface. My anger soon turned to sadness, as I immediately felt sorry for her because she not only read and absorbed a small portion of a beautiful story, but she got nothing out of it. She felt nothing, she absorbed nothing, which means at the end of the story, she was still nothing more than who she was when she started. What a sad thing for her and for those around her.I, on the other hand, read every morsel of this book and was changed in a way that I will not soon forget and will stay with me forever. This story submerges you into the very depths of poverty, desperation, sadness, determination, heartache, heartbreak, loss, friendship, understanding, devastation, sacrifice , selflessness and reward. It is a journey through the belly of hopelessness where even the smallest flicker of hope is what you cling to and use as your inspiration as you dare to dream. Dream of life much different than what you know. Dream of a life full of possibilities. Dream of a life full of warm beds and stocked refrigerators. Dream of a life where you can drive where you have to go. Dream of a life where you can take care of those you love, enhancing their lives and giving back to others. That is what this story is really about. About people who have nothing and come from nothing, but are more giving and nurturing of others than those who have it all. Where pride costs too much and giving up costs even more. Where sacrifices and giving back reap the biggest rewards. And where love and respect truly are the driving force behind enhancing people’s lives.I felt the cold, I heard the wind, I walked the miles, I smelled the lavender and admired sunsets. My heart hurt for Kyland and I grieved with Tenleigh. I celebrated triumphs and mourned losses. This author took me and literally dropped me in the hills of the Appalachians where I was able to bear witness to a life I am unfamiliar with; where life was hard and people were unkind. Working hard was necessary, but giving up was common. Dreaming was laughable, and hoping was rare. Where many are overlooked, and no one is heard.By the end of this book, I sat shocked, saddened and shamed. Shocked that people in MY AMERICA have to live in such a manner, saddened that many seem unaffected or don’t care and shamed that I may not do enough to help anyone less fortunate than me.This book is the epitome of all things good in a place where many may feel God has forgotten their address….it is sacrifice in a world where giving up something good may leave you in a state of deprivation for the rest of your life…it is the epitome of hope when hope seems to be out of reach….and it is the epitome of love, even when it seems too costly, it becomes the easiest price to pay.I will forever be altered by this book and will carry Kyland with me for the rest of my life, never once forgetting the importance of remembering that no matter where anyone comes from or who they are, they all have a story and everyone deserves to have a voice. This was Kyland and Tenleigh’s story….and it was epic….it was beautiful….it was love.

Beautiful story!
This story was so beautiful, in a meaning of life kind of way. I just couldn't get enough of it, the people, the mountains, the first love feel goods, and the tragic heartbreaks that all lead to a wonderful ending! So beautifully written, one of the best things I've ever read. A few vulgar words sprinkled here and there, nothing that kept me too distracted from reading though. I will be checking out more by this author, will it be the same caliber of story this? I don't know, but I will find out, because I'm definitely a fan of this book. In fact, if I can own it in paperback, I would love that, it's one I could read again and again.

“Are they fighting or having a book club?”
At the 50% mark of this book I was devastated. I was so sad because, even only being halfway done, I was sad that this book would have to end at some point. This book was lovely. Astounding. Beautiful. Heartbreaking. I am forever moved by Kyland and Tenleigh’s love. Does love like that really exist? It has to because these two are perfect. The way they had to survive just broke my heart. I am forever changed by this story. Beautiful.

I suppose you think if you keep showing up where I am, eventually I'll fall in love with you".An amused laugh bubbled up my throat, but I remained serious, Tenleigh constantly surprised me. And I loved it. I nodded. "Very probable".Or worse, I'll fall in love with you. Dopo aver tentato di starle lontano, provando ad essere amici, il sentimento prevale e innamorasi è inevitabile."Kiss me back, Tenleigh", he whispered, his voice strained. "God, please kiss me back".He brushed his soft lips over mine again. And that was all I needed. You had to appreciate the small things in life when the big things made you want to curl up in the corner in the fetal position and give up.Inutile dire che il modo di esprimere il proprio amore per Ten è qualcosa di meraviglioso. When it came to you, I noticed everything. I fell halfway in love with you before we ever spoke a word.

A masterpiece.
I usually love Mia Sheridan’s work but I began reading Kyland with a little apprehension. I had a difficult time with « Becoming Calder » and feared another deception. But from the very first page, I was so moved and touched by this book I could not stop reading. I felt overwhelmed, elated, sad and so awed by Tenleigh and Kyland. I still have a hard time to put my feelings in words and I probably won’t write a well built and coherent review. But I’ll go with all I’ve got because I need to write something. I need and hope to share some of the many emotions I went through.I found Mia’s writing so beautiful, so right I was constantly highlighting sentences and will quote many (sorry, it could be a bit long). She had a way to let me feel everything, just… feel. And cry, cry, cry… So, buy the tissues and dive right in.This is the story of Tenleigh, Kyland and the poor folk’s fight of this little miner town. These people are dirt poor, they barely survive.Tenleigh and Kyland both have dreams. They want to go to college, leave this town and its poverty. Have a brighter future. Not an extraordinary future but one full with simple things like a car, a refrigerator always full with food, shoes without holes and enough money to buy medicine and still eat each day. They both studied hard all their life in the hope of winning the college scholarship given to one student by the local coal company and have a chance at freedom. To be given choice.Tenleigh is a bright soul and a fighter: “You had to appreciate the small things in life when the big things made you want to curl up in the corner in the fetal position and give up”.But even with all her will, life was really hard for Tenleigh and Marlo, her big sister. They always had to care for their mentally ill mother, sacrifying food to buy expensive medicine. Tenleigh felt so tired: “Sometimes my life felt so small. And I had to wonder why those of us who were given small lives, still had to feel pain so big. It hardly seemed fair.”It was so hard to witness Tenleigh and her sister always alert and protective of their mother. They had no real childhood, they could never be carefree. And when their mother decided not to take her medicine, her erratic behavior brought so much humiliation on her family. Tenleigh was powerless: “It had to be one of the worst hurts in the entire world-being embarrassed by someone who was meant to protect you, not humiliate you. And yet I still loved her so much.”My heart broke for this family and the humiliation they endured. There was so much hope in Tenleigh’s mother and it was repeatedly crushed when men she cared for rejected her. “He spit on her”. “And then he slammed the door in her face”.” I looked off behind Kyland, picturing the way the sky was a deep, twilight blue, picturing the look of devastation on my mama’s face, picturing the dust our shoes kicked up as we walked silently home, looking down the whole way.”Each woman had been rejected and abandoned one way or another by men before. That’s why Tenleigh did not want to love someone. She had no time for men and put all her might in her studies. But one day, she saw Kyland’s loneliness and hunger. She knew what it felt. To be so hungry you would eat other’s crumble and even food spilled on the floor. From this moment on, she was always observing him.Kyland did not want any attachment or relationship either. He wanted to leave this town and never look back. Both unwilling to love someone else, both strongly driven by their hope of freedom and yet, their attraction was so strong. They resisted. Kyland fought his attraction but it was a lost fight: “I wanted to take her virginity-and not gently. I wanted to hurt her like she was hurting me each time I looked at her. I wanted to mark her, claim her, let everyone know that she belonged to me and only me.” “F***! No. No. No.”He repeatedly told Tenleigh he’d be leaving and did not want a relationship. He could not offer much if any. But the lines were blurred and she slowly fell for him.And yet, she could not claim him and it hurt, badly. . “I wanted to throttle her… or him, or both, I wasn’t even sure. And I had no right-I was no one to him. All my life, I was just a nothing, a nobody. My life was small and worthless. And it hurt so badly”.She knew it would not be forever, he never made promises. She knew she would be hurt but still was willing to take the risk: “Was I wrong to feel like it was worth the pain later for some happiness now, no matter how temporary it may be ?”Kyland was so many things: deeply lonely, kind, beautiful and always selfless. He did not think he was worth much and wanted Tenleigh to have so much more than he could give her. Tenleigh had to open his eyes and push him many times. He was so worthy and did not even know it. ” It’s okay to want something for yourself sometimes. It’s okay to want me.”You make the darkness go away. You bring me some kind of peace. I don’t know what to do with it. ““Take it Ky. You deserve some peace. Let me give it to you.”“And what do I give to you , sweet Tenleigh?” He whispered sounding broken. “What can I possibly give to you?”I thought about it for a second. “You help me believe”. “In what?”. “In goodness, in strength”.So Kyland did not want to hurt Tenleigh but she was strong and would prefer hurt than feel nothing at all. ”I think that when enough time has passed, when you’ve survived that which you didn’t imagine you could, there’s dignity in that. Something you can own. A pride in knowing the pain made you stronger. The pain made you fight to succeed. Someday, when I’m living my dreams, I’m going to think of all the things that broke my heart and I’m going to be thankful for them.”And suffer, they both will. What Kyland did was so foolish and yet so admirable, I did not know if I wanted to slap him or hug him. But what he did, he did it for Tenleigh: “Because I wanted more for you”.

Another beautiful and unique read from Mia Sheridan
Kyland (A Sign of Love) by Mia Sheridan4 stars!!“Because I loved you so desperately. I still do. Because I couldn’t leave you here.”Mia Sheridan is one of my favourite authors, she is an auto-buy for me and I don’t even need to read a synopsis. I know that when I open a Mia Sheridan book it is going to be beautiful, it will be emotional, it will leave a mark on me and I will be thinking about it for a long time and Kyland is no exception. This is a book about poverty, hope, friendship, sacrifice, courage, love and forgiveness. It is hard to believe that even in the world we currently live in that there are still people in this world that live in an extreme state of poverty, even in America with all its high rises and world leading companies there are still little rural villages that suffer immensely.Kyland and Tenleigh live in one of these little villages, they live on a mountain in trailers, living hand to mouth, day to day. Some days they cannot eat, they may not have warmth or electricity but at the end of the day, they make the most of what they do have even though it is not much. One thing that I loved was the sense of community, they may not have much but what they did, they shared. Everyone was there for each other and it just goes to show that “rich” does not necessarily mean money, but you can be “rich” with your love and your actions.“They were good people – good people who barely had a pot to piss in. And yet they were offering up anything they had to give.”Both Tenleigh and Kyland are anxious to get out of their village and for people like them there is only one option and that is to win the annual educational scholarship that is given to the leading student. Both Kyland and Tenleigh have been aiming to win this scholarship, each for their own unique reason, but for both of them, it is all they have thought about and strived for their whole way through college.I absolutely adored Kyland; he was perfect in every way, totally selfless, would do anything for anyone and tried to do the best by everyone, even if it meant him making some extremely difficult sacrifices. Kyland had admired Tenleigh from afar for a long time, but knowing that as soon as he won that scholarship he was getting out of town he didn’t want to fall in love, didn’t want a relationship where he would ultimately leave someone behind and the last thing he wanted to do was upset Tenleigh, so the odd meaningless random hook-up would have to do for now.“He winked and my hormones went a little wonky.”Tenleigh’s home life was difficult at best, her mother having mental health issues was basically a child and Tenleigh and her sister were basically her carers. They both worked hard to keep what little food they did have on the table, their trailer warm and to keep their mother in the medication that she desperately needed. Tenleigh was another beautiful character, inside and out. Totally selfless, trying to do her best and making the most out of the crap hand that she had been dealt. The scholarship was her meal ticket out of Appalachia and would also give her the means to get her family out of there too.“All my life I was just a nothing, a nobody. My life was small and worthless. And it hurt so badly.”Their paths cross many times, living on the same mountain, with very little else to do and no other places to go. A friendship develops with ease between these two and you know that for both of them their feelings run a lot deeper. Both have their inner turmoil, have their conscience and their own inner demons to battle but sometimes when you meet “the one,” fate has other ideas. The trouble is will either of them be strong enough to forego their desires, ultimately resulting in the destruction of their life goals or has fate dealt them an entirely different set of cards?“A beautiful girl with a spirit so bright I wanted to squint when I looked at her was not going to derail me now.”As with all Mia Sheridan reads, this one hits hard. Her imperfect characters are always perfect in their own way, her subjects may not be the generic run of the mill but that is what makes her books all the more enjoyable, you know that you are going to get something totally different. One thing you will always know though is that it will be beautiful, thought provoking, romantic and well written. While this may not be my favourite Mia Sheridan read her characters have still managed to embed themselves into my heart and my thoughts. Since finishing I find myself reflecting back and thinking about them, their hardships, their battles, and their day to day life that would destroy anyone, yet for these two they flourished. My only niggle with regards to this book was for me the ending felt a bit rushed and I would have liked to have seen more, maybe that is me being greedy but I just felt that their story was really just beginning.“My Kentucky girl.”

A story of love, loss and second chances
I love a good Mia Sheridan book and Kyland was absolutely beautiful 😭.The story of two teenagers that live in poverty, who have spent their lives knowing what hunger and the cold feels like. The only thing Kyland and Tenleigh want is to graduate and win the scholarship that gets them out of their hellhole town amd onto a better and brighter life. What they didn't expect was to find peace, happiness and a warmth in eachother that only love can create. As much as Kyland tried to push Ten away, he couldn't help but be drawn to her light, to the goodness that shines through this girl even when she has gone through nothing but hardship. Tenleigh has always been intrigued by Kyland"s quiet broodiness but getting to know him and seeing the pain and hurt he's endured impacts her life more than she could ever of predicted. What will happen when only one can be chosen for the scholarship? Could either of them leave the other behind and not look back?Kyland and Tenliegh's love story was all consuming, it ran deep into their bones. The life they have both lived so far was so harsh and devastating and all I wanted was for them to both be happy. I needed them to be because it's what they deserved, especially together 😭. Thier story put me through the ringer but I would do it all over again. Another amazing book Mia, you really know how to write a tortured soul ❤️.

lindo, lindo, lindo!!!
Archer é adorável, Calder é notável e agora Kyland é simplesmente perfeito!!!A narrativa conta a estória de Tenleigh e Kyland.
