It’s Soap, Not Banana Bread, Silly!
It really looks like a slice of banana bread with raisins and walnuts in it…and I’m not even hungry right now! Well, now that I’ve got that out of the way, here’s my review. My hands feel dry after washing them with this soap. I’m not sure I like it. I always test new soaps on my hands because I don’t want rashes and stuff on my face. The back of the bar says, “Do not apply soap directly to skin,” and the rest was covered by a barcode sticker (but it’s on the product pages in the pictures section if you want to read it). So I wasn’t sure what to do. I stopped like a deer in headlights. Then I remembered I had a mesh bag for soap. I put it in there and now the soap will not be directly applied to my skin, right?I put the soap in the bag under the tap so water would get on it and rubbed. It lathered. I put it in the soap dish, bag and all. I washed my hands and dried them. My hands smell like nothing. If I really, really had to say, then maybe like a garage where people repair cars (but very faintly). I like that there’s no scent.Even though it lists shea butter as an ingredient this soap is very drying to the “sacred skin” of my hands. I guess the ash stuff must overpower the shea butter. I guess this is why it is good for acne prone skin. It sucks up oil. My palms feel super dry and they’re getting those white lines. I had to put lotion on.I think it’s better not to use this on my face because it’s winter and my skin is already on the dry side. I think that’s all I have to say.

Fancy aesthetic, average result
ohhhh, I was so stoked to get this soap. Dreams of creamy, rich lather, intoxicating scent, and soft as silk skin danced in my head as I stepped into the shower. In the end what I got was...clean. Yeah, you're going to get clean for sure but the rest of the magic just isn't going to happen. Well, the creamy, rich lather part wasn't entirely untrue. It did lather up on my bath poof in a totally acceptable fashion. But it smelled like nothing. Ah, the nothingness of the smell. No shea butter, coconut, or cocoa smell. It does say fragrance free but I expected some light and clean aroma. If no smell is what you're looking for here you go. Finally out of the shower and patting dry I found myself clean and...dry. It's a very drying soap. It felt like skin feels after using a Castile type soap. So it pretty much gets you so clean that you need to slather on moisturizer if you don't want to find yourself itching dry skin. I can see using this on troubled skin (poison ivy) after a day in the garden, or post workout if you tend to stink after exercise. It's a useful, utilitarian soap but don't expect to be "taken away".

Not for dry skin
This contains only 4 ingredients of which I've posted a photo. It states you should not use this soap bar itself directly on your skin and I did not, I used it on a washcloth. Although it contains both Coconut oil and Shea butter , I found it worked up a rich lather, but also dried my already dry skin. It does state that it will absorb excess oil from skin, but it seems it also absorbs all oil from your skin. I had to slather on loads of moisturizer after using this. There is no scent to it and I wish there were. Upon opening the wrapper, the bar has a sticky feel to it. It is not a large bar. Overall it just seems like a typical bar soap that will leave you clean but with dry skin. It is nice that it contains just a few ingredients and the price is very reasonable.

Makes my skin nice and soft
I always wanted to try African Black soap- I have seen it in health food and vitamin shops. I got the fresh scent- It has an earthy smell- not really what I would have described as your typical “fresh” scent. It’s not unpleasant- I am not a fan of heavy scents. The soap itself flakes a little and it dissolves quickly if you get it wet so when you use it in the shower- make sure you have a dry place to keep it when you put it down. The list of things it cures is quite long- a lot to expect from a bar of soap. Regardless, I enjoy using it- my skin feels soft and clean. The more I use this soap, the more I like it. Leaves my skin clean without any soapy residue. I would definitely recommend it.

Small, but potent.
The bar is pretty small but it’s seems like high quality African black soap. I am used to buying much bigger blocks that I just slice smaller bars off of with a kitchen knife. Requires some effort to work up a good lather. Product is not fragranced so to speak but does have the typical African black soap smell. It’s not unpleasant. Just kind of lightly earthy and waxy smelling. I understand that some people can be sensitive to African black soap but my skin loves it. It cleans really really well. I don’t find this brand to be drying or irritating but I also typically apply a moisturizer after using anyway. The “do not apply directly to skin” warning on the label comes across as ominous but really it’s just because this bar could contain rough particles left behind from the soap making process that might scratch or abrade skin if rubbed across it. Also, do not leave this soap in a puddle of water or it will completely dissolve. Bar should be stored in a dry soap container.

Deeply moisturizing
This soap bar is super soft in consistency. I was able to rip a piece of it off with my hand. Because it is so soft, I do recommend chopping a smaller piece of the bar off to use in the shower. This soap smells great and leaves skin feeling deeply moisturised.

Quality ingredients, very "natural" smell
I like the simple ingredients of this soap bar. But that's about it. The smell was way too "natural" for me. It's not a pleasant smell at all. I would like if they could add some type of essential oil or something. It doesn't lather up very well either. My husband (who typically uses standard bar soap for his whole body and face... I know...) also said it really stung his eyes. For the price and the lack of good smell, I think I'll probably pass on this.
