There's no way to tighten the cutting wire.
I would have thought that one of the primary functions would be tightening the cutting wire, unfortunately there is no way to do so.

Hard Cheese
We have an old and very simple one of these cheese slicers, it has no adjustment. Sadly however, the wire broke and we accidentally put it in the dishwasher which dulled its metal. Upon looking for replacement wire we saw this product and due to its reasonable price bought one as family Christmas present. This product is much more substantial that our original, is simple to clean under the tap and looks good.Sadly it is not as easy to use as our original. We only use the slicer on Cheddar and Red Leicester. Our young son found our old one brilliant, for many years, having the independence of cutting cheese without a blade.Maybe it's us getting used to the adjustment on this one, but we find it does not work very well and the screw is a pain to have to re-tighten. It also does not cut the bottom of the cheese slice as well, perhaps it's our technique or its bulk, and leaves a chunk of cheese to be broken off. That said these cheese slicers are a great little concept and very handy for sandwich making.

Useless
This item is not made of stainless steel as advertised. It looks like a silvered cheap metal casting. The actual packaging describes only the wire as being stainless steel. The wire is far too slack and no matter the roller position set the wire bows so much that it will not slice properly. Unusable. Returned for refund.

Not for me.
There are lots of good reviews which is why I bought one - but it is not for me.I found it takes a lot of stregnth to pull the wire through the cheese and it breaks lumps off the block where exiting.Maybe it is the texture of our cheddar, but for my requirements its a non starter and despite the good reviews it certainly did not meet my expectations.Unfortunately, although it may work for some, I would not recommend it.

A strong and easy to use design
I used this item to plane cheese for a raclette (so fairly soft cheese) and it worked beautifully, producing uniform slices. The 'T-shaped' design works much better than the wand shaped design i had previously which broke under pressure. This design is much sturdier and well made, although the adjustment screw does need tightening fairly tightly so will likely need a screwdriver to make changes - a thumb screw may be better on future designs. Relatively easy to clean, hopefully it will stand the test of time.

that said it seemed good value.
After a couple of uses the wire needs adjusting, a bit of a pain when you're in a rush to make a couple of sandwiches before you rush off to work... The screws were tight, so it must be the wire stretching, Considering I was only cutting through a mild cheddar.. I've never used one of these before so I am not sure if it's to be expected. anyway, that said it seemed good value.

Lost one star as the wire stretched a bit but was able to tighten and worked well since better than plastic ones that easily break

Changed my life
I love cheese on toast and have many not so fond memories of attempting to slice a block of cheese with a knife. You never know what you're going to get, really oddly shaped slices that don't cook evenly or a crumbly mess. One day I spotted this on Amazon, I wasn't even searching for it and thought it had to be worth a try. This slicer has made cheese on toast, and therefore my life, a joy. It's so quick and easy to use and clean. You get even slices every time. Finally, perfect cheese on toast. Thanks KitchenCraft.
