Includes: 3 x 1 Litre Kilner Preserving Jars, made of metal (2 pieces), with lids (3 pieces), 3 plastic screw top SteriLids, 3 SteriLock airlocks. The instruction manual (English language not guaranteed) included. The Kilner Preserving Jars were originally developed and manufactured by bottlemakers from Yorkshire. It operated from 1842 until 1937 when the company went into bankruptcy following an ongoing battle with the authorities over the coal smoke coming from their Thornhill Lees chimneys. In 2000, the Rayware Group, purchased the design, patent and trademark of the original Kilner jar and continues to produce them today. Metal with unscrewable lid, suitable for food, with an airtight preserving system designed primarily for the production of tinned food and to protect food in general. The lid helps keep in CO2 which in turn preserves the fermenting food as long as it is not frequently opened. What makes the SteriLid the perfect solution for airtight preservation when used in combination with all standard and wide mouth Kilner Preserving jars/jars, is its grommeted antibacterial top. It has a secure valve that removes all harmful substances including bacteria. To begin the fermentation process simply re-screw the two-piece genius lid onto the jar and let it finish what it has been doing for the last 170 plus years... Safely protects fermented food.

Love them
Bought these to make kimchi. They are really good, the sterilock lids are the best - you don't have to worry about fermentation gas exploding chilli hot cabbage all over your kitchen. Having said that, it will allow over flow liquid to escape as things ferment so do stand the jars on a tray or something. My only down on these is that i wish they were shorter but wider to make it easier to get quarters of cabbage in, but if you are making something other than kimchi they would be great.

The jars are very fine. My only reservation is that they a bit too small. If they had been bigger and the openings wider i would have given 5 stars.

Great buy! Only thing I found was not to fill the jars right to the top when fermenting as the liquid tends to spill out through the sterilock. Once I got that right they were brilliant. Useful that they also fit the 1/2 litre jars too for smaller quantities.

Great product overall
I feel as if the set is just a bit pricey for plastic and glass, however, they have been working with some fermentations I have going. Unlike other airlocks, I can't gauge the activity of the fermentation without inspection the actual bubbling within the food. Probably won't repurchase, but will continue to use them.

I made my fermented cabbage and there was no smell during the fermentation period, which is why I bought them. They did the job.

Used for my new Kefir Passion
Great for keeping my Kefir alive and well. One for Active Kefir, One for Kefir having a rest and one to clean and transfer Active Kefir into. Top allows gasses to escape and keeps nasty bacteria from getting in.

Question with the airlock
There is no problem with the bottle, but if the airlock better than original lid for fermentation? They did not make any difference for fermentation.
