Exactly what I envisioned I needed
I've been running two machines for about three months now with the same keyboard and mouse. There's a point in time when the payoff for being lazy has long since expired, and the time and effort needed to continue using only one keyboard and mouse becomes nothing but frustration. That was me.True to my lazy character, I went to Best Buy like all lazy people do. I asked three blue shirts where they keep their KVM's and they look confused, conferred among themselves and then collectively said "we don't know what that is."I replied, "it's a switch box that lets two computers use the same video, mouse and keyboard.""Do KVM's support keyboard and mouse? We have them for HDMI only."I considered explaining the acronym but decided to just walk out instead. The ROI for my exit was good, but I still had to be lazy the hard way. I was slowly metal-stressing the USB plugs in both machines and if I continue my lazy ways, I wasn't going to have front plugs anymore."Do you think Amazon understands what the acronym KVM means? Let's try."They did and this product stood out - Monoprice 4k 2x1 HDMI USB2.0 KVM Switch, because every keyword I attempted to use to explain myself at Best Buy was literally in the title. Further, the device itself looked exactly like I expected it should look, so much so that it stood out in a paged display of KVMs.I ordered it using my Amazon Prime subscription and couldn't believe they offered same-day shipping for free.I got the unit that night. I noticed that there were no signs of third parties - this company makes the device, they package it and they ship it. Again true to form, I worked the rest of the week before hooking it up. When I finally got to it, the device worked exactly as I envisioned it should. My USB plus are battered but still work and this switch saved me an enormous amount of frustration.Would I recommend you buy this? I guess so, but only if it's exactly what you wanted.

didn't work for me
I had high hopes for this KVM, but for me, it just didn't work out well. The keyboard shortcuts to switch devices never worked and when I manually switched between my two computers, most of the time, my keyboard and mouse were not detected and I had to remove and reinsert my keyboard and mouse to get them to work correctly. I thought the issue might have been my keyboard and mouse, so I tried others and they failed as well.

Wanted to love it but hate it for gaming.
First one came with no manual and taped up like it was a customer return. It would randomly switch inputs on it's own multiple times per day with no user input so had to be sent back. Second unit switched whenever middle mouse and right click were pressed which was not a feature listed in the manual and could not be switched off. That one usually only affected me during super chaotic boss battles in games - you know, the absolute worst time for it to switch away from the computer you're using. Not going to try again.
