Pemberley to Waterloo: Georgiana Darcy's Diary, Volume 2 Paperback – 18 May 2012

I thought the author did a great job drawing a line under what happened next to Georgiana, Lizzie and Darcy. A very nice read.

This is a good story and a continuation of the vol 1 of Georgiana Darcy's Diary. It is an interesting interpretation of events following the Georgiana's engagement and Gives an insight into the impact on English Civilians of the final battle with Napoleon at Waterloo.

I love all three of this trilogy. Though I read them in a weird order. I picked up Kitty’s diary first and loved it. Then went to Georgiana’s diary, followed by this one. This is gritty, historically accurate and realistic without being graphic. It’s written in true Austin style with the authors flare to make this book a brilliant read. We follow Georgiana and Kitty to Belgian, where she experienced the effects of war. You see the relationship develop between her and Kitty. Two very different woman working together. The characters are true to the original P&P but the author has developed them into more mature and very interesting people. A book worth reading.

Anna Elliott surpasses herself with the continuation of Georgiana Darcy's diary.All the things I enjoyed so much from the first volume were here in abundance. In no other Austen tribute, continuation, fan fic or adaptation have I felt that Austen's characters have been rendered so beautifully and faithfully.There is also a gritty realism to this part of Georgiana's story which is a welcome addition. I like Georgiana more and more, and I am certain her diaries will be re read almost as much, and with very nearly as much pleasure, as I read Austen herself.An unashamedly positive review for one of the most enjoyable books I have read this year. I eagerly await Kitty's diary!

I enjoyed it and the others in the set. It's a fun easy read that extends the life of the P&P characters beyond the end of the original JA book. I don't usually read fan fiction but I am now a convert and will explore more

I did enjoy the book though found alot of it predictable and altho' written in the Austin style it certainly wasn't as good. Georgina came over a lot more fiesty that one would have expected from the original and more forward thinking than her upbringing would have suggested. There was a little element of star crossed lovers initially and much 'my love' phrasing but it was a nice little yarn that would pass a rainy afternoon or when relaxing on holiday.

You certainly won't be disappointed in the follow up to Volume 1 of Georgiana's Diary. It is very moving and although I've read quite a few novels from around the time of Waterloo none have made me want to shed a tear as this one did. That's not to say it's a sad book on the contrary it's full of witty and insightful remarks which will keep you smiling through most of it. Can't wait to read Kitty's Diary.

I really enjoyed this trilogy, found it really gripping and really well done! It was great to follow the stories of lesser characters and unlike some other attempted sequels, it remained true to Pride and Prejudice and didn't try to alter the main characters stories. Excellent trilogy, I wanted more!

The continuing story of Georgiana Darcy was well worth the read. I found it went into unexpected places. I loved the historical context.

Absolutely love this series. I have to congratulate Anna Elliott for her excellent writing and for keeping me captivated the entire time. Starting with Georgiana Darcy's Diary, I wanted to keep reading more. I must say that, in general, I've never been a fan of Georgiana/Colonel Fitzwilliam (by the way to me he is Richard, not Edward) simply because it's too "creepy" in my opinion. They're cousins after all and he is much older than she is and they grew up together, but Anna convinced me that this romance is totally plausible. There is nothing to prevent Georgiana from falling in love with the Col., after all he is a hero and from what Jane Austen suggests, men in uniform were quite popular with the ladies in those days. He is honorable and good friend to Darcy and of course Georgiana's guardian, but mostly he is a man of integrity. All very attractive qualities. From infatuation to love there is only a short step and when she comes of age, I can see the possibility of her falling in love with him. I always thought the opposite as less probable, however, after getting to know what he's been through better, one can also see how her soft persuasion could lead him to fall for her. I loved this Georgiana. Strong and feisty. Elizabeth must have giving her good guidance. The whole time I was reading, especially the second book, my heart was in my throat. The war descriptions are so vivid and realistic. In sum an excellent book that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys Pride and Prejudice sequels.

Come il primo volume anche questo mi ha entusiasmata. Forse Georgiana è diventata un po' troppo intraprendente rispetto alla ragazzina timida che era, ma ne è uscita una giovane donna forte, decisa ad affrontare e a superare le sue paure, sicura del suo obiettivo e disposta a tutto per raggiungerlo. La storia è appassionante, le due parti in cui è divisa sono molto diverse eppure perfettamente integrate. La prima, dove la parvenza della solita vita era già turbata dai ricordi di guerra di Edward, racconta con molta passione la storia di Elisabeth e Darcy e la nascita di Baby James. Nella seconda la vicenda personale è perfettamente integrata nell'ambito storico della famosa Battaglia di Waterloo e la narrazione si fa a tratti cruenta, si sentono la paura di Georgiana e la sua grande volontà di trovare e salvare il suo Edward. E non si può fare a meno di pensare a tutte quelle giovani mogli che hanno davvero compiuto gesta simili in quel periodo e che però la storia tende a dimenticare.

Alors, le second tome est fidèle au premier : il ne respecte pas un seul des personnages de Jane Austen. D'entrée de jeu on a le coeur serré pour Lizzy et Darcy qui semblent ne plus se comprendre. Parallèlement à ça Caroline Bingley revient à Pemberley (on se demande réellement pourquoi elle passe son temps à les polluer ! Sans compter le fait que Jane et Bingley sont eux, complètement absents !) Kitty Bennet fait aussi son retour dans l'histoire et, alors que la fin d'Orgueil et Préjugés établissait clairement qu'elle s'assagissait, ce second volume établit l'inverse. Kitty se retrouve donc dans une position encore pire que Lydia... Et bien entendu l'incorrection du premier tome se retrouve ici ^^J'en viens à me demander ce que Caroline Bingley a fait à l'auteur ! Je n'arrive même pas à comprendre pourquoi elle fait agir le personnage ainsi. Je veux dire, Caroline Bingley !! Allo quoi !! C'est quand même Miss "Tout dans les apparences" alors le fait qu'elle ... (vous verrez si vous lisez).Et Eliza et Darcy... pfffff, ils ne se parlent plus et chacun reste sur ses doutes alors que la fin de P&P a clairement établi qu'ils dépassaient cela !! ( je vous rassure, ça s'arrange, d'ailleurs j'aime assez la vulnérabilité de Darcy à cette occasion). Sur la scène de l'accouchement de Lizzy, c'est juste... improbable, ridicule...Ensuite... Bon passons sur l'improbabilité du fait que Darcy laisse Georgiana partir en Belgique en pleine guerre... Passons aussi sur le convenu du petit groupe même s'il était plaisant de revoir les Forster ^^. Bien entendu, il faut une victime de la guerre, une jeune femme en proie aux regrets... Ce sera notre Kitty. Pauvre Kitty qui paie le prix de ses péchés. Il y a aussi une happy end pour deux OC (dont on se fout) digne d'Amanda Grange.Je reviens sur une scène à Brussel... Où Georgiana et Kitty découvrent un hopital à ciel ouvert qui rappelle furieusement Autant en emporte le vent et là on se dit, ça a du plaire à Jess, vu que c'est son roman favori... sauf que non !! La situation est tellement copié collé, en moins bien que j'ai détesté. Idem pour la manière dont Wickham est traité, c'est juste too much !! Quand à Fitzwilliam ... pffffffffffffffffffffffff franchement le rebondissement visuel est juste tellement éculé que ça donne envie de rire. Les relations entre les personnages sont dépourvues de profondeur, et beaucoup de scènes sont inappropriées pour l'époque. En vérité, le seul passage intéressant c'est à la fin, dans la lettre que Georgiana écrit à Lizzy : elle y parle d'une conversation qu'elle a eue avec Kitty sur Mrs Bennet et j'admets que ça, ça m'a plu parce que je l'ai trouvée pertinente et dans le contexte de P&P contrairement au reste du romanLes plus : Les sentiments de Kitty à l'égard de sa mèreLes moins : le resteEn bref: Si vous aimez les personnages de Pride & prejudice, passez votre chemin. Si ce roman était publié sur ff net, comme une fan fic, les commentaires seraient rudes je pense. C'est une soupe de sentiments, pas très bonne ni très intéressante. Après je suis curieuse et je vais continuer à me faire du mal avec le dernier tome de la saga... (heureusement que les e book ne sont pas très chers...)Ma note: 1/10

Ich hätte den zweiten Teil nicht gelesen, wenn er nicht ein Gratisdownload gewesen wäre - das gebe ich ehrlich zu. Teil 1 hatte ich ja schon hier rezensiert und war nicht besonders begeistert von ihm.Im 2. Teil werden die Einfälle der Autorin dann aber richtig wild.Georgiana und Colonel Fitzwilliam sind verlobt, seine Idee war es, eine ein Jahr lange Verlobungszeit zu wählen, damit sie sich richtig sicher sein kann. In diesem Jahr passiert so einiges....Achtung "Spoiler"!Elizabeth und Mr. Darcy bekommen endlich ein Baby, das ist auch eine wirklich rührende Stelle im Buch (kündigte sich schon in Teil 1 an). Ich kenne mich eher mit der viktorianischen Zeit aus, aber ich glaube auch nicht, dass im Recency-England eine Frau bis zum Beginn der Wehen alle Tätigkeiten einer Gastgeberin wahrgenommen hat, wie Lizzie das hier tut. Das ist aber eine Sache, mit der ich noch leben könnte.Kitty Bennet ist mit einem Offizier verlobt, schafft es aber, bei einem Aufenthalt in Pemberley während eines Balls mit einem nichtsnutzigen Lord zu kompromittieren.Kitty und Georgiana entdeckenen einen Liebesbrief, den eine ehemalige Gouverante von Georgiana erhalten hat und diese ist natürlich noch jung genug für ein Happy End im Laufe des Buches.Miss Bingley taucht ebenfalls wieder auf und spuckt Gift & Galle und sorgt sogar dafür, dass Elizabeth an der Zuneigung ihres Mannes zweifelt.Natürlich ist am Tag der Geburt des Kindes Mr. Darcy unterwegs, Elizabeth hat die Anwandlung, unbedingt noch mal in der offnen (!) Kutsche Ende Dezember fahren zu müssen. Georgiana ist bei ihr und Colonel Fitzwilliam schafft es, die Frauen trotz eines plötzlich einsetzenden Schneesturms und der einsetzenden Wehen von Elizabeth noch rechtzeitig nach Hause zu bekommen, wo Georgiana tatkräftigt bei der Geburt hilft.Damit könnte ich ja noch irgendwie leben, aber die allergrößten Knackpunkte sind folgende: Miss Bingley will sich unbedingt einen Mann angeln und wird schwanger von Colonel Fitzwilliams älterem Bruder. Wie schon erwähnt, sie gehört nicht zu meinen Lieblingscharakteren, aber was soll denn das bitte? Und vor allem, verlieben sich die beiden natürlich doch noch unsterblich und verschwinden nach Gretna Green, wo sie heiraten und jeder ist glücklich damit, auch die Eltern. Das geht gar nicht mehr, da dreht sich Jane Austen im Grabe um!Und der zweite Knackpunkt: Napoleon ist wieder da und Colonel Fitzwilliam muss in den Krieg aufs Festland ziehen. Georgiana bekommt die Erlaubnis von Mr. Darcy (!), ihm als seine Verlobte gemeinsam mit Kitty Bennet (!!), deren verheirateter Freundin und der 96jährigen Großmutter der Freundin als Anstandsdame(!!!) zu folgen.Ab da habe ich nur noch überblättert, das war mir dann einfach zu abstrus und hatte mit P&P kein Stück mehr zu tun.Ich habe nichts gegen ein wenig Einfallsreichtum, aber ganz sicher hat man sich damals nicht verhalten wie heute. Von der schüchternen Georgiana ist nichts mehr übrig, sie ist hier leider zu einer Art Superheldin mutiert, die sich allen Problemen in den Weg stellt und weise über ihre Jahre hinaus ist. Schade, wirklich verschenktes Potential!Als Fan von Recency-Geschichten mag diese akzeptabel sein, für P&P-Fans ist sie ganz sicher nichts.
