Great External Backup
My Apple AirPort went out on me and I didn't want to pay Apple's price. I didn't need the Wi-Fi part of the AirPort just the backup. So I found this hard drive. If I had a PC and not an Apple the installation might have been easier. But even with the instructions I was given, when I went to install nothing was like the instructions. But got it installed and it works great.

Five Stars
Excellent drive. No problems so far in the couple of months I have had it.Update: Had the drive now for about 6 months. I use it as apart of my editing workstation as a place to archive files, use it to sync cloud files with drop box and Google and some programs that I do not want to run from my small SSD OS drive, I offload on this drive. Everything works great. While putting program files would probably be better served on an internal drive within the workstation, I can't say I have had any problems with programs like Powerdvd, Glary Utilities, CD Label Maker, etc. The only thing I notice is that VLC churns trying to play some of my uncompressed avi files - but I suspect that is more of an overall computing power than anything else.I would purchase another one without hesitation and I have over a half dozen different external hard drives. If I had only one complaint, I would say the "power" button on the back is finicky and not convenient. I can't seem to power it down quickly or efficiently so I usually unplug the USB cord or the power cord so I don't leave the drive on all the time. Other than that, no complaints!!

XLNT for a Dish Wally DVR!
After returning a Fantom drive (DOA) I got this Western Digital to be the dvr for my RV. The Wally is not very powerful, but this massive hard drive really adds muscle to the sytem. It was recognized immediately, I called to activate and, after a reboot, I could pause live TV - but could not yet record. Error message about "timer creation failed". What finally initialized this capability, I think, was going into dvr --> options --> manually create a timer, and then I just picked a channel number and a time - and it made its first recording. Worked from then on as it should. One big added benefit is the Wally can now download a huge amount of guide data. On its own you only see the current and next program. So highly recommended.

Differs from My Book. .
It is strictly a 3t disc, no backup app. also a little shorter and a little more grey. So I will use it to back up My Book.

A ton of storage.
It is very comforting to know I have all my data saved and it will not get erased accidentally like if it were on my computer applications. Design is very outstandingly nice except the pin hole light for power indication could be maybe at least the size of a finishing nail head maybe. This one looks like a planet in a far away galaxy. The DC input and the USB port are too close together. Just the comfort of knowing I am not going to loose my pics and videos is worth this purchase.

It stores stuff. Well.
On a scale of 1 to hard drive... it’s definitely a hard drive. I typically have 3-4 HDs plugged into various things in the home and I don’t read reviews or research, I just grab one from a company I’ve heard of that’s aesthetically pleasing. I have noticed my Seagates take a dirt nap long before the WDs so there you go.Also this one is shaped like a book so I might paint the end like the spine of a novel and shove it in a shelf like some sort of spy.

Perfect for consoles
Works perfect with the Xbox Series X...I Have a 3TB external hard drive and had this one for about 6 months now and works perfectly fine... Had it for the Xbox 1 first then switched it to the series X smoothly and instantly... The major perfection about mines is that I still haven't heard a peep from my hard drive as it runs silently...Perfect for consoles but I can't help you on how it would work and run on a pc/laptop...

They're both working like a charm once I got Western Digital to help ...
They're both working like a charm once I got Western Digital to help me get Windows to pick up the second one.If the western digital external drives are identical, windows only picks up one of them. Fortunately setting up the second one is extremely simple.Just right click on start and open up Disk Management then locate the drive that is off line in the list and click to put it onlineI think Western Digital should include a note of instructions for this issue since they are well aware of this. (If they did, they would be less bothered and we would be a lot less frustrated).I have to say, I'm a bit surprised.
