Hauntingly Beautiful
A beautiful collection from Cofer. The book itself feels so nice in your hand, the perfect poetry book size. Illustrations are beautiful as well. The content, unfortunately, was not my cup of tea. However, it was written so that every reader gets a peak inside of the world of very heavy topics. I felt chills at times and just a lot of feeling toward the book. It took me a while to get through it because of how heavy the content was. Some poems have great formatted concepts while others are more on the micro poetry side. I would have loved to see even more of a storyline attached to it, but also liked that every poem could also be stand-alone. Toward the end I did enjoy the positive spin the author gave on life and struggles and hope. Cofer is a brilliant writer and I’m a big fan of her Instagram, however, something about this work dragged a bit.

Beautiful, painful, tender
I adored this collection! Ms. Cofer writes poetry spanning numerous topics and seasons of life, including relationships (good and bad) self harm, trauma, love, acceptance, and beauty. At times tender and sweet, most of the poems are raw and even brutal. I loved her evocative, sensuous imagery, and the occasional stunning verse. “we become martyrs because there is always something bigger to believe in” was jaw dropping, as was “you built this body. no person can crumble it.”I look forward to watching Ms. Cofer continuing to hone and develop her craft!

Not meant for someone dealing with mental health issues
My Neice asked for this book. I read through it when it was delivered. I just can’t give it to her. The concept is good and it’s written in a way that teenagers can relate but it’s very dark with heavy content. The end is more uplifting, but someone dealing with mental health issues may not get to the end. I don’t want to take that chance. I’m sending it back.

10/10 grief and goodness
It is real and it is raw. An anthem of honesty, this book is one of the good ones. I am happy to have it on my bookshelf.
