To Light A Sacred Flame: Practical Witchcraft for the Millennium (Silver Ravenwolf's How To Series, 2)

The title of my review just about explains it all; For each their own Path....And that is the very best thing I can say about any of Silver Ravenwolf's books. I have not had a chance to read this book from cover to cover as I am still working on a couple of her other books. I CAN honestly tell you that if this book moves along as the other three books of hers that I have read and work from so far, then this will not be a disappointment in content. I read most every review on alot of her books, including this one, prior to purchasing them and was quite shocked to find such disparity regarding her works from the Wiccan comminity. It seems you either love her or don't like her (the word 'hate' does not belong in the Wiccan world) and that's fine and so she states in every one of her books I have opened so far. She makes very clear that what she imparts may not be comfortable for you, stresses that you follow the path that is, gives excellant reading references to further your education as well as encourages you to explore as many different traditions/rites as you are comfortable with beyond what she provides in her works. As to myself personally, a fairly new practicing Solitary, I feel she communicates in an very comprehensive and fun manner that makes not only what she is trying to convey easier to read, but less restrictive in how it can make you feel about yourself and if your doing the right things or not. As one reviewer said, "Who smiles all the time", and even though she found it redundant to read in print, what she neglected to take away from her readings was that Silver's constant written reminders soon finds one that comes to terms with themselves within their own religious practices actually smiling alot more without printed reminders. She continually stresses that WICCA IS A RELIGION, that not everyone agrees at the same church in the Christian world and it's okay not to agree in the Wiccan world. And all her teachings stress the Wiccan Rede to 'harm none' and if my review has done nothing else, I hope it stands as a reminder to others writing reviews that a true Wiccan should limit themselves to "constructive criticism" or hold their tongues (computers). For those looking for an honest review, if you like Silver's other books, I can not see how her writing would disappoint in this book and recommend you purchase with confidence.

It says "New" on the shipping label from normanbooks, but the book was clearly used. It has an embossed stamp on the first page lower right corner stating it was from Tina Miller's Library, and a 3 written in ink on the upper right corner of the first page. I wouldn't say this book is in "New" condition rather it was gently used. A NEW book costs $14.95 I was charged $14.87. I would prefer a new book for .08 cents more.

I really like this book, but also I like Ravens writing style. Now although I read her series backwards, I first started with her older books. And even though she states that she is Wicca, I truly believe she is old world, possibly hoodoo practitioner at heart, as many of her formulas, are very much so the same as what is used, and are very familiar to my own family tradition that's been passed down for centuries. But back to the book, Ravens style is really good, relaxed and removes some of the snobbery encountered in other books, and makes the subject very approachable for people beginning on the path or even just looking for a new point of view. Myself, I'm definitely not Wiccan, but old world traditional dating back to before the 1600's in whats been passed down in my family from Nordic, African, eastern European and Middle Eastern influences, so when I read her use of beeswax candles and the use of herbs to represent the color of energy and nature, she had my attention, because that is very old world and how I was taught since childhood. So for me, Raven is refreshing, bringing some of the old world, pre Wicca, pre Christianity back into books, and I applaud that!

Ignore the negative reviews and give this series a chance. You may be pleasantly surprised. A great resource for those new to solitary pagan paths.

In all of her books, Silver Ravenwolf's writing style is fun, frank, engaging, and accessible, and this one, To Light a Sacred Flame, is just as delightful as the others. 'Sacred Flame is chock full of magickal goodies, both for newcomers to the Craft and those of us who have been practicing it for years. Don't just plan to read it, however; walk the Path with her and do the work, and it will enrich your spirituality, whatever that might be. All of her books (and I have a few)in my collection are dog-eared, well-thumbed through, and much cherished.This one, no doubt, will suffer the same fate...

Book was in great condition, better than expected and the delivery was quick. Very professional.

All of SRW' books are good, and unique. While there is plenty of repeated info on them, to be sure, but also there is much that is original. I am now in process of replacing hard copy books of hers with Kindle versions.

As a Wiccan book, this is pretty wonderful! It hits the balance I like of personal stories and experiences mixed with advice and workable methodology. It does come across a bit preachy at times, and does need other sources as supplementary learning, or it would give a very one sided image.Very Wicca centric, and would need lots of reworking for other faiths.

i have just received my book. skimmed through the book and i am absolutley delighted. i am very pleased iv bought it. i was put off by some of the bad reviews but im so glad i went ahead and bought it. this book is brilliant! its choc full with so much info and spells. iv already pressed down many pages that have caught my interest - a full ritual talking to the dead, ritual for empowering your cleaning supplies for success, full ritual for cleansing your house and apartment, a full Angel Magick ritual.. i could go on. what i love is its all easy to understand and digest. Silver explains it all. you not just given the what to do and how but she also explains why its done that way. i give this book 5 stars and i am very pleased i did end up buying it after spending some time unsure. the book is a gold mine.
