A MUST-HAVE
I lost my first order at the Post Office and have just ordered another with priority mailing. I am awaiting receipt eagerly and KNOW it will be a joy to watch.I saw some of the series as a teenager in the 80s and just got hooked. Raffles' intelligence, eloquence and nerve were amazing.Till today, I still narrate the scene where, after a job, inspector Mackenzie had barged in on Raffles at home in an attempt to catch him with the goods. After a lot of huffing and puffing, he left empty handed. Afterwards, Raffles very easily explained to Bunny that the loot was all the while in his travelling bag on the table in front of MacKenzie. Then he said what I will never forget; "Mackenzie is unfit to catch me".(Or somethinessentially to that effect - but that is how I tell it). That scene and that statement have stayed with me and affected my attitude fundamentally. This is a lovely and important collection; I recommend it without any resrvation.PS: English is not my first language - so please excuse the defects in my narration.

Better then Sherlock Holmes
I was a young 20 year old woman when this programme came out in 1977. I loved Anthony Valentines work in Colditz and Callan and wondered what he would make of the character as Raffles. He was brilliant. I loved it. If you like good quality period drama then this one is for you. Raffles is a gentleman burglar. He is teamed up with Bunny Manners(played by Christopher Strauli) where each time they go burglaring...something goes wrong..it would, wouln't it otherwise you would not have 13 entertaining stories. Written by Phillip Mackie, the diaglog is based on the original books. There are not too many changes from the books, although I won't go into details on that, as the television series did to keep true to the stories written by Hornung. I loved Raffles taking the mickey out of the police.....oh I could go on about the series however go and buy the DVDs as you will not be disappointed.

Dated but enjoyable
Nostalgia raises her head when seeing old seriesmlike this again. It just goes to show how far tv production values have come since this was first aired, but it still managed to bring out the amateur slueth played so well by the cast, working as best they could with what they were given!

Raffles and Bunny get the goods
This set of Raffles stories is very well done, although some may find the production, released by ITV, a tad dated coming from the late 70s. The picture and sound quality is good, stories always interesting and overall quite enjoyable. The relationship of Raffles and his school chum Bunny is particularly good. I purchased this region 2 set to specifically replace my previous region 1 DVD set released by Granada BFS Video, which did not have subtitles for those to whom English is not their first language. These discs have English subtitles (although I don't think it says so on the box), and all films from Britain should contain subtitles, at least in English, not only for the hearing impared, but also for all the potential viewers who need some assistance figuring out the English accents! Recommended.

Raffles is an upper class burglar played by anthony valentine
This was a very well made tv series from 1975.Raffles lives with his accomplice played by Christopher strolli .its a sort of sherlock Holmes Dr Watson arrangement except these men are on the wrong side of the law. Very good performances from both those actors.

A Sympathetic Adaptation, Typical of The Original Books.
I don't understand why so many people comment on how TV from the 1970s has 'aged' etc. Of course it has! What do you expect from a series 40 years' old, where technology was in its infancy and low-budget efforts like Raffles & Lord Peter Wimsey were more about the feel of the original literary works.Ignore those reviews, and if you like E. W. Hornung's 'extremely short' writings of the original Raffles stories, I'm sure you'll love this DVD set. I'd also recommend the fantastic audiobook CD or iTunes download, with Raffles played by the smart Jeremy Clyde- who actually appears in one of the episodes of this DVD set.

Ah, a great series to binge watch.
While we've been stuck in, we've watched our way through umpteen box sets and particularly enjoyed this one. Raffles is a great anti hero and charms his way through life. The look of the time is good and stories quite exciting, We especially liked that the camera wasn't swinging about and making us sea sick and that there are scenes with extended dialogue instead of fast cutting between scenes.

Absolutely Brilliant. Howzat!!
A great series from the 1970s with Anthony Valentine in sparkling form as Raffles the Amateur Cracksman, all round cricketer and sportsman. The producers spent a lot of money on this show, reproducing the atmosphere of Albany, the exclusive residence off Piccadilly where Raffles lives, and showing all fourteen episodes of derring do (not thirteen as advertised - the pilot episode based on Hornung's story 'Gentlemen and Players' is included).Anthony Valentine is the definitive A.J. Raffles. Don't miss this excellent production of E.W. Hornung's heroic creation. And after watching the series, you may feel inclined to read Hornung's elegantly written stories about his eponymous hero.
