I got this telescope for 10 year old son. We spend a lot of time in the summer star gazing at night with binoculars, which is really fun by the way. But I thought it would be neat to see a bit more of the moon and stars with a little more magnification power. If you're a practicing astronomer this telescope probably wouldn't do it for you, but for the budding star gazer it's really cool. The magnification is good and lenses are nice and clear making for good viewing of the craters on the moon. It's also a super nice looking setup, the brass and the wood look spectacular together. I suppose if you wanted to decorate your room in a Victorian explorer motif this would match a big drinks globe really well too. Overall we're really happy with it and I'm glad we got it!
