Ideal ‘lazy-weekend’ reading – great fun
Very entertaining police procedural and flirty romance combo – 5 StarsWhen FBI agent, Kayla Dixon, and Houston detective, Mandi Murphy, both resign their posts to move to Sawmill Springs, each is expecting that policing the small town will be far less challenging than their previous roles. It’s not long though before the local community is rocked by a string of murders, and Kayla and Murphy find themselves heading the investigation. This is another classy crime/romance combo from Gerri Hill. The crime element of the story zips along at a pleasing pace with several twists and turns along the way, and it’s combined with a flirty romance that offers heaps of lighter moments. There’s also plenty of small-town interest as Kayla and Murphy team-up to solve the first major crime Sawmill Springs has seen in years. There was so much to like about this book: It’s a very easy read, but it packs a lot of plot into its two hundred odd pages. Highlights for me included the unconventional approach to policing adopted by Kayla’s police chief father, and the way Kayla telegraphs her attraction for the uncommunicative Murphy. Not that you can blame Murphy for be wary; not only is she new to town, new to the job, and working with the chief’s daughter, but Kayla is straight…or so Murphy thinks!

Keeps you guessing
I wasn't sure if I wanted to read this book if I'm perfectly honest. But I'd heard so many people speak positively of it I thought I'd give it a go. I'm glad I did.It is a mystery with a twist. One I did not guess straight away. So my compliments to the author you had me fooled several times.I can't say too much or I'll give the game away. What I can tell you is that it is a well told story by an exceptional author.Hill takes you on a journey that is full of twists and turns and its not only the main plot. T h e characters are pretty likable and have their own stories to tell. All in all I really enjoyed it.It keeps you guessing from start to finish. Enjoy I did.

An absolute winner.
Too often, books get bashed for having too much dialogue and Showing, not telling. I loved the dialogue between the characters in this book and it's what made the book come to life for me, so some rules are made to be broken! Excellent scene setting, wonderfully paced and I finished the book in an afternoon. I'd love to see these characters become a series.

Very short book.
I have read most of Gerri Hill’s books and I was very disappointed with this one. It felt like it was thrown together without much thought. The characters I never really felt I knew, unlike most of her other detective books. The storyline was weak and the book was finished before it had really gone anywhere. Being a kindle edition, I didn’t see how it was only 30 something chapters long. If it was a book, it would be very thin! Very disappointing.

I used to look forward to a new book by Gerri Hill but I found this latest offering very disappointing. Compared to No Strings, Gulf Breeze and Love Waits for example I found the plot line very thin and not very believable. There was very little chemistry between the main characters. It is a given that the two main characters will get together by the end so the journey is very important. So that is why Gulf Breeze is one of my favourites and a go to whenever life is getting me down. The chemistry between Carly Cambridge and Pat Ryan just leaps off the page. This book is very flat and gives the impression of being written to fulfill a deadline.

Best of both
I like a good crime and I also like a bit of lesbian romance. This book seduced me into both worlds and kept me captive until the end. Perfect with a glass of wine and a background of classic FM.

Loved it.
I loved this book, the characters and storyline were interesting and I would definitely recommend this book. I first for me by this author and would definitely read another book written by them. This book didn't disappoint.
