The best lunch bag for BOTH hot & cold foods
I recently got the Lava Lunch, and it's been a game-changer for my meals! The best part? No plugs needed—just heat the Lava Rocks in the microwave, and they keep my food warm for hours. The dual compartments are awesome for packing both hot and cold items, and with its roomy 3-liter capacity, I can bring all my favorite snacks and meals. It's super easy to clean and made from safe materials, so I don't worry about anything harmful. The instructions are simple, and using the rocks is a breeze. If you're looking for a convenient way to enjoy hot and cold meals on the go, Lava Lunch is definitely worth it!

Love
My son uses this product for work. We add everything into a container and heat up the lava pieces for about two minutes. It keeps his food cold for about six hours. The only thing I wish is that this came in with its own container.

Poor zipper, did not keep
The zipper did not glide smoothly and got caught on inner seams and insulation. I did not keep the product because I expect the zipper to fail quickly.

Rocks rock - box not
We're coming from a Wildkin lunch bag where we are constantly going through soft plastic hot packs because they fatigue and burst. Enter the Lava Lunch bag...The hard plastic "rocks" are phenomenal. I wish these were available to purchase on their own - the company would make a killing on them. After following the directions exactly microwaving them individually according to the wattage/time specified and molded into the plastic itself (love this), they stayed and kept food warm for 5 hours in warm climate despite a bag challenge (more later). I can't comment on cold climate performance yet but I can say with certainty that they will outperform the soft plastic packs that I have been using thus far. They also have these sections on the side that do not heat up so you can handle them quickly right out of the microwave. The bag is just terrible. Compared to Wildkin, the material feels flimsy and the walls are really thin. If you layer the hot packs as specified with one below the food container and one above, you can feel the heat strongly through the bottom of the bag and, much more importantly, it transfers into the top compartment making the juice box and snacks warm. The zippers are low quality and small. They get caught up pretty hard around the corners and bends. Enough so that even adults have a bit of trouble. I'm sure my 11 yo can deal with it but he's going to be rough on those jams and I don't see the zippers lasting long. Lastly, the handle position... I don't know what they were thinking. Why they couldn't do a double handle to even the load or move the attachment points to the sides is beyond comprehension. As it is now, the bottom of the bag pitches toward the carrier's leg when holding it making contact with every stride. The only positive is it's roomy.1 star for the bag - 5 stars for the "rocks" hot packs. I'm going to keep this just because of the packs.

Took a product we love and made it…worse?
Let me preface this review by saying we are a Lava Lunch family. Their insulated lunch bags have been a lifesaver for my picky eater child who ONLY eats hot lunches. We have been buying these bags since he started 1st grade, (He’ll be in sixth grade next year.)Saw that the newest version of the bags are larger than before, and thought, “Great! I’ll buy one now so we’ll be sure to have it ready for next year,” even though our current one still looks and works just fine. The new one just arrived, and while it is much larger, that’s about the only feature that’s good about it, IMHO.The reflective insulation in the new one, is thinner than before, and is cut far too large for the dimensions of the bag, so that it sticks out beyond the zipper on nearly every edge. That means that in order to be able to close the zipper, you need to fold down the edges of the lining so that it goes inside of the bag — to be able to zip the bag up without catching any part of the lining. It took me (a grown adult) 10 mins to finesse the liner down and in to zip it up. I highly doubt my 11 year old is going to have the patience for that! Instead, he will likely force the zipper and end up splitting it, and/or the bag apart before the school year is through.Lastly, the neoprene handle/material that was built in, has now been replaced by a standard fabric shelll + a nylon fabric strap. While the strap itself is sturdy, instead of being sewn to the center of the top section of the lunchbox, it is placed at the back of the bag. When you lift it from there, the whole bag hangs/tilts forward instead of carrying straight up and down. Not sure why the manufacturers decided to take a great product and downgrade it in so many areas, but I will be returning this new lunchbox and try to search for somewhere or someone that still carries the older generation design. So very saddened by these changes.
