Watch it again and again
Yes I know, it's all been said before - but honestly, it doesn't get much better than this.Watching it all again was just as enjoyable as the first time when it was on television. Even though you know what is coming, it still leaves you wanting more. My advice is simple, but both series 1 and 2, also the Christmas special from 2011. Makes a wonderful change from a lot of the violent agressive stuff they put on these days. Perhaps the televisions companies should use a little of their brain and ask themselves why so many people love a good drama without the need for all the '18' rated stuff. People want to be entertained, not emotionally bashed. One thing about Downton, it will still be enjoyed in many years to come.

Continues where it left off
Following on from series 1, which showed Downton Abbey during the last hurrah of the landed classes from 1912-1914, series 2 focuses on the impact of the Great War on Downton and those that live and work there. The stately home of the Earl of Grantham is turned into a convalescent home, but the biggest impact is on the lives of the characters themselves. Some die, others are injured, those that remain at home must live with the consequences. The class boundaries, which were strictly observed pre-war, now begin to be pushed, both from above and below. The DVD extras give a little insight to the making of the series and the underlying themes, although these are fairly obvious to the watcher. Maybe not as good as series 1, but still a great drama. Bring on series 3!

Pure entertainment
Full of anachronistic language, attitudes and values, but endlessly entertaining and beautiful to get absorbed in. It is just fairy tale stuff. Love it, but do not take it as representative of what would have gone on. Series 1 is the most revealing and series 6 is the "and they all lived happily ever after". The humour is both subtle and blatant and there is never more than 5 minutes without a quick helping from that sweety--box. It is clever and simply beautiful to watch. All of the 6 series are of equal quality, and each brings its own novelty. And it is just so much better without the 20 minutes of adverts per episode.

amazingly persuasive
I confess I was an all out fan of Downton Abbey from the very start, (being fond of Hugh Bonneville anyway and already having great admiration for earlier achievements of Julian Fellowes), so it was not difficult to find myself totally absorbed by this wonderful series, and given that it seems he was persuaded by the amazing response to series 1 to keep on writing, he has maintained the integrity of the family and below stairs networks and interaction superbly. It's definitely one of those story lines that I hate to see come to an end, in the vein of Brideshead Revisited (Jeremy Irons and Anthony Andrews version). My aunt now lives in a little rural hospital, and watching Downton Abbey obviously affords her immense pleasure.

Downton Abbey Series 2
I watched a couple if episodes of series 1 and decided that I would get the DVD as I was a bit fed up waiting for the little bits in between the many adverts. When the DVD arrived from Amazon I watched it from beginning to end without a break. I decided that I would do the same with series 2 and was captivated by the acting and period costumes. I will do the same with series 3, which I am looking forward to. I hope that I don't have too long to wait. The actors were well suited to the parts. Hats off to Julian Fellows!
