Excellent when used carefully.
Quite a thick, difficult to apply varnish and like all thick varnishes not easy to use. So I diluted it with 20% white spirit. It makes it runnier and easier to achieve a fine finish. On bare wood I dilute it with 30% white spirit for the first coat. Used like this, with several thin coats, lightly rubbed down between coats, instead of one or two thick coats this varnish produces a good durable finnish.Straight out of the tin? Well not so good. Patchy, clumpy and uneaven thickness producess a hard wearing but poor looking surface. So, diluted and many coats excellent and recommended. Stright from the tin hard work and poor results.

Ok did the job.
Used over gold paint easy to apply with a nice matt finish.Drawback was it took 3 days to dry but that was I was going over gold metallic paint on furniture should have tested it first.

Excellent product
This is one of those products that performs as advertised. A product I have used many times before and is worth the price for a quality product. Top marks.

Yellow Tinge
This is very thick oil based varnish. It dries to a high gloss finish. However, there is a strong yellow tinge to the varnish which means it is best suited for non painted wood as it otherwise could affect the colour. I was covering wood with white stencilling on and it has made the white look yellowy.Clean up with brush cleaner too so very smelly.

Good product but isn’t quite satin
Easy to use product but although stirred well has a shiny finish rather than Matt, still looks good and hard as nails

Do yo really want this product?
Okay so I should set out my stall.I'm not a professional painter and decorator but I varnished enough items over 40 years.I was looking a clear satin varnish for an oak veneer cabinet I built and kept coming across Polyurethane Varnish products with glowing reviews. The price was right so I thought I'd dip my toe - even bought the 'special' foam applicators.I SERIOUSLY WISH I HADN'T :0(This stuff is like painting with glue, thick glue. And as for 'dry in six hours' - nope. Try 24 and that was inside a centrally heated house too!Okay so perhaps I should have knocked it down with white spirit - suggested 10:1 or 9:1 (whatev) but I reckon 50:50 and it still would have been rubbish.I even tried a second coat on one of the surfaces hoping that it would even things out and get a smoother finish (btw you have to stir it really well to get the satin finish else it's high gloss!?!) and it was horrible with runs and pulls. So I hit it with white spirit to whip the whole lot off and it did all come off, including the 2 day old first coat. And left a decent finish too! But thats because there was not product (or very little) left on the wood.So my advice, unless you HAVE to have Polyurethane is avoid like the plague.

VERY GOOD VARNISH
I must admit i am a Rustins fan. I use this mostly on wood projects i make around the house. Good durability.I not sure if it is food safe. So i do not use in the kitchen.

probably the lowest value polyurethane out there
Heavy finish leaves streaks and puddles which makes sanding necessary. Had to strip it off completely and apply different product. STAY AWAY.
