So many parts
Great concept but in reality it's hard not to lose the pieces as they are very small. Store up high away from children. Hope this helps...

Good basic letter peg puzzle at a very reasonable price
I wanted a letter sorting peg puzzle for my little girl's 3rd birthday. She loves puzzles, but is still too rough to treat cardboard jigsaw puzzles with the care that they require, so I still prefer wooden puzzles. She loves sorting out the letters to fit into the wooden tray, some of the pieces are very similar in shape, but they are different enough for her to realise when she's not quite got it right, which is great. Under each letter is a picture - e.g. under a is a picture of an apple, which reinforces the connection between the letters and the words that they begin. Each of the letter pieces has a little plastic peg, which makes them easy to take in and out (unless you just tip them out, as is my daughter's preferred method) and it also makes them easier to turn. I have had problems with similar shape puzzles in the past without the pegs and it has cause my daughter frustration as she finds them fiddly. This is a good quality puzzle and for what it is, I think it is excellent value. I haven't been disappointed by any of the Melissa and Doug products that I have purchased for my children and this is no exception. The only criticism I might have is the the holes are slightly bigger than the pieces, which whilst good for a beginner, who is struggling with co-ordination, is slightly less aesthetically pleasing when finished - although that is from my perspective - my children don't care at all!

Lower case letters
I was a bit disappointed that this set is in lowercase letters instead of uppercase. I bought this for my 2yr old who knows his alphabet but he is struggling with the difference between the I and the l, and also the P, D and B all look the same, even as an adult I had to work it out. Otherwise its a very sturdy set and looks like it would last a while. I like that it has pegs as it makes the letters easier to pick up and I love the bright colours.

Impractical design
This is nothing against the seller but rather the design of this product.Impractical design.Letters get stuck in the board.Letters not easy to read with the little stick in the middle.over all not the best way to learning small letters.

The item is not actually defective - it is just poor packaging design
See Attached Picture.I bought this as a Christmas gift. On seeing what is shown in the first photo, rather than wrap this present up, I reported it as defective to amazon. Amazon refunded my money and indicated that I did not need to return the item.I opened the item intending to repair it in time for Christmas and discovered what is shown in the second photo. The item is not actually defective - it is just poor packaging design.Item review: The graphics are a little basic and lacking appreciation of how shadowing should be done, but for a small child it is on first inspection most satisfactory and acceptable quality for a small child. A few bits of wood will require some sanding though. My first draft of this review was rejected, I think due to the 1 star I gave it for visability, generally speaking the product is perfect so far.

Good value, keeps them entertained.
My nephews love this. 2.5 yr old likes to match the shapes. Some pictures are odd. Like ring instead of something simple like rabbit for R. My 1 yr old nephew likes to eat the letters and then tip them all out. It works.
