After tasting more than 15 Kombuchas, which ranged from “yuk” to “yum”, I decided to make my own.Whilst waiting for this to be delivered, I impatiently made my own Scoby & started a brew with it.The theory was if mine was disgusting I would have this to fallback on.My own homemade Scoby brew tasted fantastic.Sadly the same cannot be said about this one, which tastes TERRIBLE.I followed the directions very closely, as only having made my own once before.Tasted this on Day 5 to see how it was progressing & it is awful. I have gone through the directions again & checked for mistakes, but I do not appear to have gone wrong. Sterilised everything before commencement.Have checked a few online recipes & cannot find anything different.My conclusion is it must be the ingredients.The tea was a weird mixture of leaves, some unrecognisable & of dubious quality as a lot of powder was left floating on the top.. The liquid Scoby is a complete unknown.I used a brewing belt at correct fermentation temperature. The supplied temperature strip did not work.Waited 3 more days but taste is just getting worse, so down the drain it goes.All in all a TOTAL RIP OFF at £46.00 for a glass jar, a tatty bit of cloth & a rubber band.
