It's a lovely story book for every age group. I ordered it for my 5 year old and totally adored it. It has a simple and engaging story line.

Had heard a lot about this book, mainly is American sitcoms. Good story no doubt but illustrations are a bit drab. Nevertheless, my 5 yr old enjoyed listening to it n asks us to read it quite often. I searched for colorful books of this story but they compromise on d beautifully written words that paint a picture in your mind.

Wir besitzen die deutsche Ausgabe und meine 8 Enkel lieben die Geschichte. Deshalb habe ich die englische Ausgabe für ein englisches Kind gekauft. Die Geschichte ist aus dem Jahr 1922 und erzählt das Leben eines heiß geliebten Stoffkaninchen, das zunächst wenig beachtet wird, dann überall hin mitgenommen wird und langsam seine Schönheit verliert - das Fell ist abgeschabt, der Körper ist dünner geworden usw. Bei seinen Ausflügen mit dem kleinen Jungen trifft das Samtkaninchen auf echte Kaninchen im Wald und schämt sich, weil es keine Hinterbeine hat und nicht hüpfen kann. Das ebenfalls alte abgenutzte Schaukelpferd im Kinderzimmer erklärt dem Kaninchen, dass es abgenutzt erst wirklich "echt" sein kann. Als das Kind krank wird, tröstet das "echte" Kaninchen den Kleinen und kuschelt sich an ihn. Als das Kind gesund wird, verbrennt man alle Dinge, die mit der Krankheit in Berührung kamen. Das Samtkaninchen liegt im Garten und wird in letzter Sekunde von einer Fee in ein echtes Kaninchen verwandelt und in den Wald gebracht. Eine Geschichte, die auch heute noch gültig ist, wenn man die vielen geliebten, abgenutzten Lieblingstiere der Kinder sieht. Ein Buch, das unbedingt lesenswert ist.
