Davidson's Tea Bulk, Dunsandle Nilgiri, 1 lb Bag

Love this tea!!! I was buying jugs of tea and decided to make my own. It saves me a lot of money. Its easy to brew in just 4 minutes and I make it in 2 quart jars. It does not have a bitter taste if brewed correctly. I will be buying this for a long time!

This black tea has qualities of both Ceylon and Darjeeling teas. It definitely has the floral or white grape Darjeeling taste but balanced out by more typical Ceylon flavor. So, I really like it, as I find straight Darjeeling blends to be too much. It definitely has the high elevation grown traits still though. Some say the tea has an identity crisis and is lacking defining characteristics and is more like a blended tea, but that doesn't mean it's bad at all! For Keemun tea, Davidson's may not be the best I had but for the price it is very good. Keemun I feel is incorrectly described as smoky, but it's more like an unsmoked tobacco in some of its qualities, and I mean that in a good way, it's quite good!

Another great find from Davidsons. I use this for my special strong chai masala. Nice and fruity with a hint of malt. Will be ordering this again soon.

The tea tastes good, doesn't have a particularly complex flavor. It tasted bitter and unpleasant at first, but I realized that it was the Stevia I sweetened it with, not the tea. Since switching sweeteners I've been happier with the tea and I'll probably get more of this blend. Take care not to steep the tea longer than five minutes to prevent bitterness. I've been steeping it for four minutes and it's working out great.

I'm very fussy about tea. Being a connoisseur over 40 years. I started drinking tea when I was barely 13. So impressing me, at this point, is quite difficult. I fell in love with Nilgiri tea, when I lived in Japan.(late 90s early 2000s) A tea place in Shinagawa carried it, and it was soooo good. Id never seen it anywhere else previously. The nilgiri region of India is quite small, and now, multiple farms there, produce tea. Back then, not so much. But suddenly, this brand I found only in Shinagawa.... it was gone. They had no explanation. They just stopped carrying it.. So, for the last 20 years, I've been on a quest, to find the nilgiri tea Tha tastes like the one I bought in Shinagawa all those years ago. None have come close. Some were even nasty tasting.. 😭 Id all but given up.. Soooo... I was perusing this company's very large inventory... And sure, they have it. I said, eh... Why not.. It is exactly like the one from 20 years ago? No, but it's close, and it's delicious, regardless. Joy bliss, I have renewed hope for mankind! Yes, really... Tea is life..

This tea tastes just like regular brown tea; with sugar, it is basically good old southern style sweet tea, and the flavor is comparable to Lipton or Nestea. I would buy this again in a smaller quantity, but was expecting a different flavor of tea. That, however, may just be my personal failure to research exactly what "dunsandle Nilgiri" really meant. I bought this along with several other bulk teas from the same company to make some tea samplers for friends for Valentine's and this was my least favorite of the ones I purchased.

My husband is from the area where this tea is grown. It's grown in Munnar, Kerala bordering on Tamil Nadu, Bodinyakanur is the town he's from. I understand this is also grown in Kodaikonnal as well. Both are hill stations and beautiful places to visit if you are ever in South India and want a break from the heat. I am very spoiled, I usually can manage to conjure up someone to send me real nilgiri. The last time I was in India I packed a whole suitcase full of the gold label nilgiri (the frost, 5 lb bags). Long story short, it didn't last as long as I hoped...we ended up having a few kids...and I didn't get back to get more. My inlaws bought me some but it was low quality definately not export quality. And, I ordered from misc. places online. I ended up stumbling on this and I am so so so grateful! This is the nilgiri I was looking for. It's so bold but the tea itself is light. I make ice tea out of it in the summer and everyone is always shocked when they taste it. It packs a punch! This is perfect of me, and I'm on subscription now so I don't run out. But, I'm thinking I'll need two of these a month now that two of my boys are tea drinkers too. I did find a few pieces of sticks in mine. I am not bothered at all. And, certainly am not deducting a star for that. I am impressed that I've found a good quality nilgiri at a decent price! I paid double for a very inferior brand!! Thank you so much for offering this, I am in heaven. And, tonight I'm making a curry to go with my Indian tea.
