DaVinci GourmetOrganic Caramel Syrup, 25.4 Ounce

I love adding hazelnut syrup in my latte. Including this Davinci brand, I’ve tasted 5 different brands including the one sold in Starbucks. Davinci won tops down - not sickly sweet, the syrup has a fragrant smell and most importantly did not have a bitter aftertaste!

I was hesitant to purchase this after reading reviews of a chemical taste or overpowering taste. DO NOT use the recommended 1tsp if you don't want to be overpowered. I use this with my espresso machine to make lattes. If you add a splash (legit 1/8tsp or so) to your milk before frothing it, you'll have a great tasting drink without any over sweet taste. Experiment to taste but definitely start with a few drops and work your way up.

This was not at all as advertised. The photo in the ad showed a rich brown liquid in a bottle with a black top and ingredients that were different. The bottle I received has a liquid which is very pale, light, and nearly clear. It also has an additional ingredient which is not included in the photo of the ingredients in the ad. The additional ingredient is ethyl alcohol. Making me wonder whether this is even hazelnut syrup at all is that the bottle cap I received is just clear plastic, not black as in the ad. Maybe the label was slapped on the wrong bottle. But the flavor is near bland, alcohol or citrus prominent, and not at all something I want to add to my coffee. All in all a huge disappointment. I was really looking forward to the treat.

I bought this for adding to my espresso drinks at home. The smell is so-so and I feel like that accurately describes the flavor. It's less chemical tasting than the newer Torani Hazelnut syrup but not much actual hazelnut flavor in the recommended serving size (which is 2 tablespoons and a whopping 20+ sugar). I was hoping this had more of a real sugar cane and hazelnut taste but it does not. If you want more of a hazelnut flavor I'd say keep searching.

The flavor is not very well concentrated, thus a great deal more than a few drops are needed to detect the hazelnut. Then it is necessary to nuke the coffee for 30 seconds to bring the coffee back to its nice, hot coffee temperature that I like. I'd once found flavor concentrates in the coffee aisle of my supermarket that required just a few drops, but they are no longer stocked.
