A great beginning for any age
While aimed at kids, this is a great place to start at any age. If you have been looking at other drawing books, and the books you have seen before only make it harder, your search is over. Mark makes it easy for anyone at any age to get basic drawing skills, the building blocks you need to get started. He teaches the skills that other books make seem complex, without the stress or making it go over your head. His way of teaching is simply the easiest method a person can have to start drawing. And if the books are good, his old show on PBS and his videos are even better. Mark makes drawing so fun kids beg to use the book again and again. He does not start by intimidating you with the completed project, in fact you don't always know what you are drawing until you are done. He takes you one line, circle, or square at a time and before you know it you have a fun drawing. I also reccommend you try the books from Ed Emberly, or check my lists on Amazon for kids that want to learn to draw, or be a cartoonist or animator.

Guaranteed to spark the imagination
I credit Mark Kistler with helping to ignite a passion for drawing in my kids. We first checked his books out about two years ago when my oldest was 8 and my twins were 7. Mark Kistler does a great job of connecting with his audience and helping them see that drawing success is easy to achieve when you go step by step. His infectious enthusiasm for drawing doesn't hurt either (look him up on Youtube!). We've had hours of fun with this drawing book and others by Mark, highly recommend for your young budding artist.

Good basic information
After my high school art teacher told me I shouldn't consider doing anything artistic, I waited about 35 years to attempt to do anything that would be considered art. I needed to do a drawing to explain a solution for a problem at work but didn't know how to go about it. I looked at quite a few art books but most of then were just artists showing their skills and didn't really teach you anything. Mark Kistler's book was the first "art" book I found that explained how to go about drawing. He provided clear examples in this book I could follow. Because of this book I was able to successfully transfer over to using an electronic drawing program on my computer. It has been a wonderful help and I have used it several times to add to my drawing skills. Most importantly Mark encourages you to make a mistake and also encourages you to use an eraser. Something my high school art teacher said we should never do. Mark has a positive attitude about teaching and learning to draw. If you are frustrated about learning to draw I feel this is one of the best books with which to start.
