Read the mystery, skip the love story
Partners is the third installment in the series of books featuring Police Detective Tori Hunter and her partner Samantha Kennedy. Detective Casey O'Conner has joined Tori's squad and is quickly becoming the best friend that Tori has never had. They have just begun to work on a case involving a serial killer who goes after women when O'Conner is assigned a new partner. Leslie Turner is going to have to get up to speed quickly if they're going to stop the murders. As they pick their way through some strange clues and even stranger people, there seem to be more questions than answers. One of those questions for Leslie is why she's more interested in spending her free time with Casey and Tori than with her fiancé. Leslie is being attracted to Casey and she can't understand why, so she turns to Sam for help since she went through the same situation. Casey feels that there is a hole in her life and she would like to have a relationship like her friends share, but she doesn't know if that is possible and certainly not with Leslie since she's supposed to be straight. Casey and Leslie find themselves being distracted by their confused attraction for each other and that could prove to be fatal because the killer is still lurking out there and he knows who they are.The best part of Partners is the mystery involving the hunt for the serial killer. It's a tightly written story with tension on every page as long as it sticks to the killings. There is a character named John Doe that is very well drawn and who offers a different aspect to the book. The culmination of the hunt is exciting, scary and totally unexpected. Where the book bogs down is in the romance. The write up on the back cover says that this is the last book in the series, which is probably a wise move. How often is the reader supposed to accept the premise that a straight woman walks into a squad room, gets assigned a lesbian partner and suddenly discovers she doesn't love her fiancé but she does love her partner? Once in a squad is possible, but two cases in a row stretches credibility. At times the romance gets in the way of the rest of the story. The more interesting personal development is the friendship between Tori and Casey. Both of them have been severely wounded by people in their pasts and don't find it easy to open up to other people. To see two strong women learn to let down their guards and share their pain is an excellent character study. As usual Gerri Hill provides a book that is quick and easy to read and is enjoyable. It follows the formula of the previous two books, which makes it somewhat predictable, but the mystery of the serial killer compensates for that. Once again Hill has provided readers with a few hours of escapism.

Hunter's Way with different characters
Many people have given this book a bad review because they feel that it's basically Hunter's Way but with two new characters, however aren't most of her novels like this? Like one reviewer basically stated, two women meet (usually one out and the other either in the closet or questions their sexuality once meeting the other woman). Both are unable to be together for one reason or another but in the end things work out in their favor. The only difference are the events leading up to the ending. Either way Gerri Hill is one of my favorite authors even though everyone knows how her novels will end (at least when it comes to the love story. That being said, this novel wasnt as good as Hunter's Way but was still a good read. The ending, that some people are complaining about, is a bit upsetting however Gerri Hill has posted something on her website in response to some people's questions. [...]

Not as bad as it's made out to be
I just finished "Partners" at 3:00 this morning, and found it to be a solid read. I was doubtful about it, due to all of the less-than-stellar reviews, but it was pretty good. Yes, it could seem like a rehash of Sam and Tori's relationship; I prefer to keep an open mind (maybe something will fall in, y'know). And yes, some things are left unresolved. I see Ms. Hill writing one more book in this series to tie up the loose ends, and then she'll probably move on to her other books.Casey and Leslie are solid characters in their own right, much as Sam and Tori were solid characters.Give it a chance, especially if it's been awhile since you've tackled the first two books.

Yet another amazing book
Everything about the Hunters Way series has been amazing. Great plots, the flow was steady and kept me drawn in. The love stories are personal and emotional. I had no trouble believing in them. Partners is a cute story of two cops who like Tori and Sam, are Destin to be together. There are some parts in the series I felt the author didn't do justice. There was so much more room to write about. But we shall see if she brings those parts to life in another series. You must take the time for yourself and get to know these ladies. You won't regret it.

Not ready for this ending
While I enjoyed this series, Hunter's Way being the best of the three, I did not enjoy this last book as a conclusion to the series. The crime story while interesting, could not compete with the love story of Casey and Leslie. Gerri Hill is excellent as an author in building and telling a story. I find all of her novels capture me and pull me into the story...literally as if these characters were real. That is a gift that few authors really have. With that said, the ending was confusing. Casey and Hunter were amazing, funny and sexy. I enjoyed how the author developed their stories/characters in the series. I understand that the author wants us to think about these characters in our heads after the conclusion of the series, but I was not ready or expecting these characters to go away with so much unanswered. With all that said, if you have read books 1 and 2 of the series, you have to buy and read book 3. It's really Casey's story and if you loved her in book 2, buy book 3.

Devoured it in one day!
I normally enjoy a good book while winding down the day before going to bed. I started reading this one on a Sunday morning because I had finished the first two in the series and just had to find out what happened next. I picked it up first thing on Sunday, thinking I would finished it up by the end if the week! No chance of that. This is a real page turner, nail-biting book, which keeps the reader on edge. Excellent read.

More please!
I really love the foursome of characters in this series of books. This, the third in the series, lived up to my expectations in many respects but the ending was a real disappointment as I felt there were loose ends to tie up - from this story and the previous ones. So I am living in the hope that there will be a fourth book to round things off satisfactorily. I am sorry that this may be the last story involving Tori, Sam, Casey and Leslie - they are great characters and I shall miss them....

Good read. Poor editing.
Although the story line is good and well balanced between action and romance, the editing in this book is appalling. There so often no delineation or even a gap on the page between one scene and another. This meant I had to retrace my steps to see which characters were suddenly added to the conversation often in a different location.

PARTNERS
As usual a really entertaining and gripping read. Just love Gerri Hill. The ending was predictable, with the usual happy ever after, or maybe not???? Thanks Gerri for another great book.
