Lovejoy - The Complete Collection [DVD]

Love Lovejoy!
My hubby got me into this recently, and now I really can't stop watching it! I love it. Lovejoy is an antiques dealer, complete womaniser after his nasty divorce and an all round cheeky chappie, he's joined by Tinker dill his friend and very drunken colleague and Eric Catchpole a young man learning the business from Lovejoy and Tinker. Finally there's Lady Jane Felsham, friend to Lovejoy and business partner (Lady Jane is an interior designer and Lovejoy supplies the antiques) they all together have a lot of fun adventures and some genuinely hair raising escapades but it's a brilliant program! I really recommend this it's fantastic. Seriously watch it!!

Great series, awful case
Not much to say about the show itself, if youβre buying this then you already know what itβs all about. However the case it comes in, is bloody awful. Discs stacked on discs, the discs get caught on the edge of the case. Terrible.

Lovejoy. A show that puts life into the Antiques trade.
Revelation Films Direct nailed it with this release. Job well done. The picture and sound is as good as you'll get on DVD for a show this old. If you play it on a DVD player you might have to turn the volume up a little more than your usual level. If you use a PS3 or PS4 then you won't have to adjust the volume as much as when played on the DVD player. The machine you watch DVDs on does make all the difference. The picture quality of this release is not like watching VHS as someone else put it. Even series one on DVD looks better than VHS. In saying that people should to remember how old this show is. Old shows can only be remastered to a specific level of quality. It all depends on the quality of the archived material. What's to say about the show that hasn't already been said before. It's a charming series from what I remember. The DVDs show the series has not lost it's touch even after all these years. It is a show that can be watched at any time of the day or night. The towns and countryside like setting for a lot of the shows story-lines works so well. It creates a better atmosphere than it would have been if based in a city. The music matches the scenes well. Be it comedic moments that give off that goofy feeling to the viewer or the more tense sections of Lovejoy's adventures. The music just adds to the magic of the show.Lovejoy is a great main lead. His drive keeps him from earning the big money. But it keeps him sane... at times. Tinker (one of LJ's partners) is an old school antique merchant with a love for the odd drink or three. Eric (LJ's second partner) is the newbie in learning. Lovejoy's protege in a way. He loves Heavy Metal and can be a tad foolish at times on and off his motorbike. He eventually leaves the show around series five. Lady Jane is Lovejoy's associate and friend who often helps him on deals and gets him out of trouble a lot. I had a crush on Phyllis Logan when I was younger and watched Lovejoy on it's initial run. Ms Logan is an amazing lady. I love her work. Sadly she left the show. Both came back at the end for the finale of the show in series six. The series after Eric and Lady Jane leave is still entertaining. But it is left with a gaping hole caused by their departures. A hole that was never filled.Lovejoy is good family entertainment. There is no strong language or sex scenes (which ruins most shows) and no graphic violence. Some of the violence that is shown is tame. Often comedic. It is a show that should definitely be viewed at night with the lights out. Like sitcoms. This brings the show to life more. More atmospheric. But if you are wanting to let the kids see it. There's nothing to worry about. The age rating should be lower. I think they rated it that through series one. Although series one could easily be shown on day time TV. No joke.Lovejoy - 5/5.
