This seems great so far
This seems great so far. I was looking for a half decent ID holder for months before I found this. (Tried 4 so far, some broke... some are too flimsy.)Companies concerned with access control should buy these. The badges don't do any good if they're constantly getting lost due to poorly made badge reels.I bought the small version and it seems perfect as an ID holder. Strong cord, Long enough to be convenient. I've only had it for a day so if it turns out to have a really short lifespan I'll be back to update my review.

Durable, if not fashionable
Just bought my second one. Near daily use of the first one, which I got sometime before 2014 for use as a badge reel. Its predecessor finally give up the ghost with a spring failure (tether would not retract). Reels that are provided by employers are generally crap and rarely last more than a few months, at least that's true for me. I've tried a number of designs, from steel cable tether to nylon to kevlar and kevlar is the most durable, by far. This model is a decent trade-off of strength for bulk / weight. For a badge reel it's probably bigger than what you've used before and definitely utilitarian in its fashion sense.. For context, I use a snap-in phone holster unapologetically. The clip is generally comfortable and won't dig in to your side (I wear it mostly with scrubs). The only gripes are minor and fixable: 1) the clip will bend outward over time and needs to be bent back (with tools), the degree depends on how roughly you use it. 2) the attachment isn't ideal for badges (most of which have a horizontal slot punched through - I use a small key-ring to get the badge to lie (mostly) flat. It would be nice if the company offered an alternate snap-on piece that's geared more toward badges - not holding my breath; 3) I did lose some spring tension gradually over time (before it abruptly failed entirely). To be honest, I only noticed after I unpacked the replacement and saw how much more brisk the snap-back into the reel was. Totally not an issue for me, but if you are loading this at the outer limit of what the spring can lift (many times what I put on it), you could end up disappointed in the long run, and I suspect that's what is reflected in some of the negative reviews; 4) puffy logo sticker - just get a fingernail in there and pry it up. Comes off without leaving much (if any) adhesive residue. All in all I'm very satisfied and will keep ordering these every few years until I no longer need them or they quit making them.

It works great with my badge holder to provide extra security
Item came as promised. It works great with my badge holder to provide extra security. I had bought the cheap kind wit the string before this Treign and almost lost my badge when the string ripped. This is a bit more costly but definitely worthy peace of mind especially when your work requires multiple forms and a long explanation of how you lost your name badge. Why go through the hassle just purchase this badge holder to save yourself the trouble.

One Star
The clip with the metal wire broke with in a few months. Not worth the extra money.

Great, except for one huge flaw.
Great product overall, but the braided cable attachment point started to fray and ended up cutting me. This is such a bad design choice on an otherwise amazing product. On a part that is going to be prone to a lot of unpredictable flexing, steel is the absolute wrong material to use. If they used kevlar (like the cord), dyneema, or something similar it would absolutely be a 5 star product.

Very specialized use
I tried to use this to secure a small EDC knife. Didn't work very well, but it seems like a well made product. It looks like it would probably be quite good for uses as pictured in the advertisement.

Been very impressed with this product. It will stand up to constant uses all day. Its retractable line is the right length for me, even if a lock is a bit higher than a normal door handle.
