Case Axe Double Beveled Blade 180mm

The double bevel edge hatchet (鉈 / ナタ・両刃) delivered 2 days before scheduled delivery date, well packaged. Fairly sharp out of the box. A short sharpening quickly made it razor sharp. Due to it's forward weight balance and it's blade thickness it easily splits short pieces of wood. The edges of the wood grip; along the handle slot for the tang, at it's forward end, are sharp edges, and uncomfortable when help in bare hand. A quick sanding of the edges removed the sharp edges making it more comfortable. Overall the handle grip shape is comfortable providing a safe and secure grip of the hatch when used. I personally wouldn't want a longer bladed & therefore heavier hatchet. For splitting firewood this size and weight works well. Which is the primary reason for purchasing it. For limb trimming I'd probably prefer a shorter lighter model. The scabbard is wood on the inside. Covers with imitation leather. The diagonal snap security strap is adequate and snug. The other security straps that snap closed around the wood grip are a loose fit. I will probably glue a piece of leather or fuzzy piece of Velcro tape on the inside to make it hold the handle tighter. Recommended tool.

Back in the 70s I was a tree trimmer. We were clearing storm damage one day and the owner of the house came out with a axe very much like this one. I was entranced by the axe. He was swinging that thing with mastery chopping branches and making out chain saw look anemic on anything less than four inches.At that time you couldn't get the things in the USA and I kind of forgot about them. Then the other day I saw one of these listed when I looking at knives here in Amazon. All the memories flooded back and I ordered it immediately.This axe is beautiful I love just holding onto it and blowing my friend's minds when I show it too them. Yes a 65 year old man still gets a kick out of showing off my knives.This axe is just awesome. I wish I'd found one decades ago.

I used to have to carry a machete and a pruning saw to clear brush and trees on my property but I can now do it with just this tool. It was sharp enough out of the box to clear vines and underbrush and heavy enough to chop 3 to 4 inch trees. Great tool!

Poor construction. Ill fitting handle. The grip feels like it will rip up your hand, and the securing pins don't even go completely through the handle. Not worth $69.00

Cuts through wood like butter!!! Please be careful using this if not experienced.
