Great book!
I'm an EMDR trained therapist and I bought this book to supplement my sessions. I literally finished it in a weekend and loved it! You do not have to be a therapist to enjoy the benefits from this book!! Laurel has done an amazing job of teaching the basics of tapping in your resources to help with anxiety, depression, and so many other issues!! Highly recommend!!!

Excellent book. I am using it as an adjunct ...
Excellent book. I am using it as an adjunct to EMDR. I tend to have issues with "self-help" books because the writing tends to be all over the place with tons of space-filling stories, and the real substance of them could probably be a few pages. I love Parnell's writing style, and the book is very well organized. It is not dumbed down or patronizing. I found it helpful to read it front to back, but it also functions much like an encyclopedia. Just use the appendix to find a section or two about how to help yourself using tapping depending on the particular problem or need you might be having.I was also interested to learn how many ways you can use bilateral stimulation through tapping, including more discreet methods when out in public.. Many of Parnell's ideas I would not have thought of myself, even understanding how resourcing works. It has definitely helped with my anxiety in specific situations, as well as issues with motivation and procrastination. The strategies that Parnell teaches help a lot if you keep at it ... And USE them regularly.I do wish the book had addressed my most deep-seated bad habit: getting out of bed in the morning and not hitting the snooze button! I wish there were a section the dealt with habits in general, but after reading the book and understanding the general flow of tapping in resources, I feel equipped to be creative and tailor these methods to fit my own needs. That said, she covers and awful lot. She thought of an awful lot. I hope to see more self development books such as this by Parnell in the future!

Good but has Kindle formatting problems
I have just started reading this book and am several chapters in. I will update this review when I have finished it. I do have problems with the Kindle version formatting. Someone needs to go back through the book and fix the lists and font sizes. Spacing around headings and heading formats are also off. These problems are distracting and make the book more difficult to read. Whoever transformed the content for Kindle clearly did not proof-read this book very well. Please have someone do this and post a corrected version. Thanks in advance.I also found out after I purchased it that the text-to-speech does not work in the Kindle app or on my original Kindle device. I really wanted to listen to some of the guided imagery scripts this way, so I am disappointed by this limitation. So far, with respect to the content, I like the approach and writing style. I've gone through a lot of EMDR therapy and found it very useful, but it did not include this aspect. My therapist recently suggested adding this component, so I am reading up on it. I am hoping the book includes walk-through practice to process emotional difficulties related to an upcoming event or activity. I found a passage something like that with a medical/dental visit, but so far the list only includes when you can use tapping, not walk-through practicing in advance. Perhaps this is better done with the support of a professional at first, depending on the level of difficulty involved, but I am doing it a home now and could use more pointers. In general though, I like the content in the book and think a lot of people could find it useful.

Parnell focuses very heavily on the positives
Laurel Parnell, trained in EMDR, has adapted this method in an interesting way. EMDR invites people to focus on their trauma memories and current symptoms while alternating stimulating the right and left sides of the body. This produces intense emotional releases that rapidly clear these issues. When the negatives are cleared, positive cognitions are installed to replace the negative ones that have been released.Parnell focuses very heavily on the positives. She has people visualize a "safe/ peaceful place, nurturing figures, protector figures, and inner wisdom figures." (p. 45) These help people calm down when agitated, fearful, injured or upset in other ways. She discourages people from focusing on previous experiences that might resonate with the current issues.Parnell reports dramatic improvements, not only in the primary issues being addressed, but also in attitudes, self-confidence, openness to accepting positives from others and more. She also notes that with repeated practice the positive effects with her method are more easily achieved and stronger. You will find many suggestions for positive images and cognitions one can install in this book.My hesitation about what I read is that my personal experience of clearing current issues over a period of four decades and my experience of helping clients do the same has been that current issues very frequently resonate strongly with earlier issues. In many cases, the current issues appear to be invited to occur or even to be generated by the earlier issues. Without clearing the early issues, I would be concerned that further problems could easily arise down the rocky roads of life.

Alright for first steps....
It is generally good self help book for those who are initially finding out how to relieve anxiety created negative thoughts. However it is not as informative as Francine Shapiro's books She is the founder of EMDR therapy and explains in detail the purposes behind the tapping. There is more direction in her information. This book is very 'first steps' and could be useful to those who need first steps.

Bilateral Stimulation
Rather weighted on the spiritual side which can seem a bit airy fairy and off putting to some health care professionals, however, the bilateral stimulation method given were good.
