Grayson's Vow

Another amazing book from Mia Sheridan!
‘He looked like every hero in every fairy tale I’d ever dreamed, come to life. And, God, I wanted to believe in heroes again. But sometimes, I supposed, a girl just had to be her own hero.’Ever since reading Archer’s Voice, Mia Sheridan has totally become a 1-click author for me so I was very excited when she announced the release of this book! I know that with a Mia Sheridan book I can expect amazing writing, a unique storyline and loads of feels. While we certainly got all of that in Grayson’s Vow, this book also had a decidedly lighter vibe than some of her other books. It definitely dealt with some pretty heavy topics and will definitely squeeze your heart from time to time, but it was also funny and at times had an almost magical, fairytale-like quality to it as well. I really enjoyed it, and I think it’s definitely in my top 3 favorite Mia Sheridan books.“I don’t mean to rush you, but I have a lot to get done today.”Her eyes widened. “Right. Of course. I’m sorry to hesitate. Well, I guess I’ll just get right to it. I have a business arrangement to offer you.”I lifted one brow. “A business arrangement?”She nodded, twisted the long gold necklace she was wearing. “Yes, well, in actuality, Mr. Hawthorn, I’m here to propose marriage.”I loved the premise of this book, definitely an unconventional love story but it was still a beautiful love story all the same. As the blurb indicates, Kira Dallaire is in a desperate situation. She is trying to escape the life her father is trying to trap her in and live life on her own terms, but in order to do that she needs money and she refuses to take a dime from her father. Known for her ‘Very Bad Ideas’, Kira concocts probably her craziest idea to date when she by chance spies Grayson Hawthorn in his own bit of desperation while she’s closing an account at her Gram’s bank. She seeks him out and proposes what she feels is a mutually beneficial business arrangement: to get married in order to access the money in the trust her Gram left her and split the money 50/50. That will allow her to set out on her own and rebuild her life while at the same time allowing Grayson to save his family vineyard that he vowed to his deceased father that he would rebuild and make successful. Aside from their guilt at mocking the sanctity of marriage they both see this as a win/win arrangement, all they have to do is get married, split the money, stick together for a few months for sake of appearances and then divorce after a year. Simple enough, right? Well the one thing neither of them counted on was pesky feelings getting in the way. Just as they start to build a real relationship though, ghosts of the past and old scars that run too deep threaten to ruin everything.‘He looked like a prince, but if I were going to cast him in a fairy tale now, I’d cast him as The Dragon! A beastly, judgmental, fire-breathing dragon.’‘She was a conundrum. A pretty princess with a tempter of a fiery little witch.’I’m going to say that I loved how they started off basically hating each other. They both had preconceived notions about the other based on the little information they knew and it was so much fun watching them butt heads with each other. Kira had a fiery personality and constantly pushed Grayson, who had basically closed himself off for the past several years. I loved their nicknames for one another, Kira was the “little witch” and Grayson was “The Dragon”, I think they were very fitting and I loved how they carried through the whole book. As they begin to learn more about the other they realize that they have more in common than they may have originally thought, the difference being that Kira took the hardships of her past and used them to fill her heart with love and help others while Grayson chose to shut down and put up thick walls around his heart. I loved how Kira’s light started to break down Grayson’s walls and begin to take away the darkness, it really was wonderful how she never stopped fighting to restore Grayson’s name and help him feel accepted and loved.‘What was sexier on a man than great abs and a heart full of hidden torment? They should bottle it and sell it by the truckloads. Or perhaps write a book: “Abs and Hidden Torment: A Man’s Guide to Bagging Babes.”’I love a good tortured hero and I think Grayson fit those shoes quite nicely. At times he definitely had the scaly personality of a dragon but once you got underneath that and saw the pain and hurt that he carried around it’s hard not to fall in love with him. It really was heartbreaking when you learn the full extent of what happened to Grayson growing up and as a young man, you can definitely understand why he’s closed himself off. He just wants to do right by his deceased father and bring the vineyard back to its glory so that his father would be proud of him. Man, just thinking about what happens surrounding that is making my heart squeeze again. I just want to hug him! But it was great seeing him come alive again under Kira’s influence. It starts off just being little glimpses here and there but soon he truly starts living again and it made me so happy to see!‘Kira was like a brightly shining light, and I had been living in cold darkness for so very, very long.’Kira was a fantastic heroine! There was plenty that had happened in her life that could have broken her but she chose to take those experiences to make her stronger. She was so full of life and light, I think she was the perfect complement for Grayson. I loved her strength and her selflessness. She had such a positive influence on anyone she came in contact with. She was also fun and quirky, I loved her ‘Very Bad Ideas’ and how she was always scheming up some new trouble. Mia Sheridan is great at writing strong female characters and I think Kira is now my favorite of the bunch. We also had a great cast of secondary characters. Playing into the fairytale theme, I loved how Charlotte pretty much served as their fairy godmother! She was a great character and I loved her constant meddling, she definitely kept Grayson on his toes. I also loved Kimberly, Virgil, Walter, Harley, Priscilla and of course Sugie Sug! All together they rounded out this story and all played important parts. It’s great when you meet a group of characters that start to feel like family by the end, and that’s exactly what we got here.I really enjoyed this book and while Archer’s Voice will probably always have the #1 spot on my Mia Sheridan list this book is definitely up near the top of that list! It was full of humor, lovable characters, heart stopping romance and at times heartbreaking sadness. Like I said, it’s definitely not as heavy or emotional as some of her other books but it’ll still make you feel and perhaps tear up a time or two. But it was a thoroughly enjoyable read that I would highly recommend!

So Peaceful!
I absolutely loved Archers Voice when I read and was over the moon to find out Mia wrote another book! And it was on Kindle Unlimited. I haven’t seen this book so much in Book Tok but took the chance…. And it did not disappoint. I would have given it 5 stars but it did take some time for me to really get into it. For some one else it could be easier. I read back to back and so sometimes it’s hard for me to start new books. But once it got going and the story line really finally falls together the last 5 chapters… it was easy to lose yourself in it. I love Grayson and Kira love story and how they never gave up and always kept pushing. It really shows true love and how everyone deserves second chances. Defiantly one for the vault!

Brilliantly crafted, beautifully told and boldly explored
There are a few things that you know for sure when you get your hands on a Mia Sheridan book. First, you know that you will love the hero and the heroine, since no one writes a better female than she does. Next, you know that the story will be rather unique in a way that only she can tell it. And, lastly, you’ll suffer in frustration. Frustration not at this author…oh no…. because she weaves magic with her words, but rather frustration at the suffering her characters must endure in order to truly find a sense of peace in the world. That’s because this author is just that good. She writes in such a way that you not only walk the journey with these characters, but you actually live it….feel it…breathe it…endure it. You mourn the losses and celebrate the triumphs. You wait in complete anticipation and anxiousness just like the character. You heart hurts with theirs and finds ways to rejoice when they do. It is almost as if every single thing is happening to you. You are a myriad of emotions from page to page and by the end of a book, you are so emotionally spent because you just endured a lifetime of ups and downs in the span of a book, that the mere thought of moving or thinking another thought just seems like an effort of insurmountable proportions.Well, buckle up because this ride is no different.Mia Sheridan stepped out of the box a bit with Grayson, as he is not her typical hero….ON THE OUTSIDE. Yes, he is tall, sexy and handsome just like her others, but his façade is nothing like we are used to seeing from this author… AND IT IS PERFECTION.Grayson struggles with the need to balance his truth with his hopes, as well as his needs with his wants. He is in constant struggle not just with himself, but with everyone and everything around him that he feels is a blatant reminder of something that he not only cannot escape, but feels completely defines who he is. He lives in an epic state of despair, always having to settle. He forever has his scales tipped in favor of pessimism.Enter Kira…the spitfire. She also has a truth, but she refuses to let that define her. She surrounds herself in fun and wears her hopes draped around her like a warm blanket reminding her that that very determination can bring her closer not to just what she needs, but what she truly deserves. Oh, the epic battle that ensues not just within her mind as she continues to plot, but between those around her as they battle for ownership of her very soul. Yet, while Grayson’s scales favor pessimism, Kira’s scales fall on the side of optimism. Can these two truly find balance together? This book was everything a Mia Sheridan book is known for, plus one more thing she decided to add to her recipe for book perfection….comedy. This book was so funny in some parts; I found myself laughing out loud. But I quickly learned that when you find laughter in the midst of despair, you found an author who is demonstrating the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel…and setting me up to cope because my laughing, at times, was just preparation for the reality, that although helping not only her characters as they cope, she was also helping out her readers with the necessary medicine to heal their aching souls because we soon suffered along with these characters as page by page more ugly truth is revealed and left lying at our feet to try and come to terms with. This story was brilliantly crafted. There is beauty to be found within the pages of a book where both characters suffer similarly, yet behave differently. They bring out different parts of each other, highlighting and enhancing some, while stirring up others best left buried. But there is even a greater beauty to behold when one character finally realizes that while sharing similar pain does lead to greater understanding and acceptance, discovering you want to share in the same joy leads to greater healing and reward. The demonstration this author portrays when it comes to the “scale,” as represented by Libra, is stunning. Her interpretation of pain and hope, along with action and reaction, were just so spot on that it forces you to remember that a smile is truly a frown upside down, and while on the outside things seem to be one way, just a simple turn can truly display that not everything is as it seems. Coping is something personal to each individual, and execution of it even more so. People hurt and hurt to feel as if they are not alone in the suffering, and others try to fix because they too are broken and desire healing. Yet neither is truly fair until you know the actual battle each person is fighting. Soon resistance is met, stubbornness displayed and the occasional spitefulness wreaks havoc. This all adds to the genuineness of the characters, the validity of their story, and the spot on behavior as they battle not just themselves, but each other, realizing along the way that where others in their life fell short, they had more than they realized from others. At the end of this book, I was reminded of what this author does better than anyone else…FORCES US TO REMEMBER. She reminds us that not everything is as it seems, nature and nurture are powerful molding components, everything you see may not always be everything there is and, great happiness follows great pain. But, ultimately, she displays that love is a powerful thing. Giving it can nurture and heal, and denying it can destroy and foster anger. So, yet again, Mia Sheridan knocks us down, breaks us apart, slowly pieces us back together, dusts us off and sends us back into the real world with another valuable lesson learned that not only will enhance our own lives, but hopefully that of others. And yet again, I am a much better person for it.

Wonderful, wonderful read!
Since I have discovered Mia by reading all of her four books (at the time) in one weekend, ever since I follow her books and the release day of her new book is always blocked in my diary from any other activities. This is the day when I dedicate my full attention to Mia's magical writing and it Never Ever disappoints. And her latest book, Grayson's Vow, is no different.Grayson is not particularly likeable guy (Dragon). He has his fair of hardship but he also has a network of dedicated friends that he does seem to appreciate. He is not capable to draw on his internal strength and is rather a weak man. He has a particular talent to alienate himself from those who truly care for him. He focuses far too much on his self pity. He does not see the obvious in front of him.On the other hand, Kira is a very likeable girl (Witch). She is very lively, Vivace girl who spreads her joy and love with whomever she interacts. She is not even particularly nasty with those who wrong her. Her granny is her good spirit. She grew up in loveless home and had awful experience with people she loved and cared for. Yet, it has not made her a bitter and awful person. Quite an opposite, she is full of ideas of how to change the world to become a better place. So would bitter and cold Dragon open up to loving, vivacious Witch? It is a journey worth travelling to find out. It has a few turns and twists too.I love that Mia has created a strong Female character while the Male Hero is this vulnerable, weak guy who learns that maybe trusting again will give him the strength that ultimately might bring him happiness.I am sorry I probably need to wait a year now for another delightful read from Mia (she releases a book once a year usually) but I absolutely and utterly love her magical writing.

Lindo!
Mia Sheridan nunca desaponta. A tensão sexual é palpável. Ela me fez chorar, me fez sorrir e me fez sentir. Eu simplesmente amei os seus personagens. Ambos são fortes e cabeça-dura. Kira é incrivelmente bondosa, mas também não é daquelas que leva desaforo para casa. De todos os livros da Mia, ela com certeza é a minha heroína favorita. Sua espiritualidade e generosidade realmente me cativaram.

Amazing rollercoaster of emotions
Whenever you decide to pick up a Mia Sheridan you know you need to prepare yourself for one hell of a ride. From the very start of Grayson's vow I knew that this was going to be the same. First of all we meet Kira who seems to be down on her luck and withdrawing her very last amount from the bank and Grayson who is utterly defeated. What happens when the two meet? A marriage of convienence that quickly becomes inconvienent for them both. As the 2 begin to learn about each other the lines soon become blurred and sparks fly.As soon as our hearts are swooning Mia manages to pull them right out and stamp all over them. From misunderstandings to people crawling out of the woodwork the path to love doesn't run smooth.I adored the fun easy going nature of Kira and her crazy ideas. Grayson is alot more serious and we see just why this might be. It's hard to understand why he had to suffer the way he has but easy to see why he is affected the way he is.This is a story about too people on a slow ride to love and them learning to enjoy each other and let go of past hurts and humilations to be able to trust and be happy together.I absolutely loved this story and couldn't stop turning the pages.

Beauty, strength, love - 2 complex characters that approach life completely differently ....
Mia Sheridan just has a way with words that makes your heart clench. Her stories never fail to stir all my emotions and make me feel like I know the characters deepest thoughts. I actually bought this book months ago but put off reading it as I knew once I started I'd be doing little else. Again, it didn't disappoint but it was also not what I expected - quite original and different to her other novels, beautiful but far more mainstream. This is a story in which you have more than an inkling on where it's already headed, but the feelings involved are extreme and it unveils things slowly like an onion and by the end you realise how complex it is. I devoured this book in a night, unable to stop reading until I finished, as I enjoyed everything about Grayson and Kira's story. The scenery, the backstory, the characters and the entire heartache just all fell together perfectly. What all started as a business transaction, proposition, a bout of desperation by both of them turned out to be so much more.Kira Dallaire and Grayson Hawthorn are two people who have very similar backgrounds, two broken souls struggling to find their way in life, desperate to do anything just to continue to survive. The only difference is that Kira has this light in her and one of the most generous hearts, despite what she's been through. Grayson, on the other hand, has always been on the brink of giving up. He always saw the negative side of things. As Grayson so eloquently thinks "I understood the pain of being a constant disappointment. But how had she retained that free, open spirit in the midst of nothing but coldness and contempt? How had she risen above it?"They both agree to push through with Kira's plan, to marry and then split Kira's inheritance from her beloved Gram, so she will get her freedom from her father and Grayson can fix the vineyard he is running. This is where you feel like you can predict where this will go, but this couple will continue surprising you at every turn. They had this hot and cold, push and pull thing going on, Kira was able to pump life back to Grayson's grumpy attitude and battered soul with her utter sweetness and enthusiasm. "I saw so clearly that despite the similarities in our stories, and despite the fact that she’d been severely wronged, Kira had chosen to face the world with hope and optimism, and a kindness close to stunning. And me? I had withdrawn and surrounded myself with coldness, focusing only on my own selfish desires. Unlike my wife, I'd been a coward."Grayson was able to make Kira feel wanted and see herself as someone beautiful and desired. How the entire thing between these two transpired was what captivated me the most. The dragon and the little witch. Their playful bantering and unconscious possessiveness towards the other. Mia Sheridan has done it again. I highly recommend this book to hopeless romantics. This book will make you realise that when you see the brighter side of things, you can still feel and find love in the midst of heartbreak and pain.
