NICREW Aquarium Internal Filter, Submersible Power Filter with Multiple Function, Aeration System with Sponge Filter for Fish Tanks 20-40 Gallon, 185 GPH, 10W

I bought this filter at the beginning of January, so I’ve been using it for almost 3 months now. Overall, I’m really happy with it and I feel like it was a great upgrade for my tank. The filter feels like good quality and it has two types of filtration that work really well together. One is a sponge that catches most of the dirt and debris, and the other one is like a bag with filter media that helps clean the water even more. Together they do a really good job. Before this, I had a waterfall filter that came built into a rock decoration with my tank, and honestly it never worked properly. The water was always dirty no matter what I did. After switching to this filter, I immediately noticed a huge difference. It only took about 15 minutes after turning it on for my tank water to look clear again. This filter is rated for 20 to 40 gallon tanks, and mine is 20 gallons, so it fits perfectly and has more than enough power to keep everything clean. The only downside is that it does make some noise, which can be a little noticeable at night. Also, I had some bad luck because the replacement piece for the motor propeller came broken, so that’s why I’m not giving it a full 5 stars. Other than that, it’s a really good filter and I would still recommend it. It keeps the water very clean and works exactly as expected. Also, my turtle actually loves it and likes to sit under the water flow, it even looks like she’s dancing when the water hits her shell.

I was initially very disappointed in the package and shipping, when I got the product the box was beat up, torn and open inside the Amazon envelope. I put the filter together anyway, unsure if the damage would keep it from working or not, but I haven't had any issues with it so far. The filter itself it a great step up from my old noisy filter which sat on the top side of the tank. This filter can be placed anywhere inside the tank, has good water flow, my fish enjoy swimming around through the current. It has been safe with all my fish, snails and shrimp so far. I have baby neon tetras and shrimps in there and nothing has gotten unwantedly stuck to the filter, so I'm happy about that. I like that I can change the direction of the water flow, or use the other attachment for bubbling options. While I'm happy with the product itself, the packaging could definitely use improvement. Even a bit of bubble wrap to protect the filter during shipping would've helped. I paid a lot for the filter, and if it breaks, I won't know whether it just gave out or if it had to do with damages during shipment. I would have given 5 stars but due to the damage I am giving 3.

I have four of these filters, all sizes, it is an amazing compact internal filter!!!! I use it as the primary in my QT/hospital tank, in my 10/20 gallons and now 30 gallon tanks I use it as an extra water cleaning as I change out the charcoal with filter floss in all of them. The surface agitation when using it the way I do cannot be beat. I never worry about the oxygen exchange with NICREW. All my tanks have a sponge, Fluval HOB or cannister, and an NICREW internal. Khulis, corys, and honey gourami love playing in the surface waves. Great value for an amazing product. Again, I own four so obviously I love them. Fluval and NICREW and sponges have worked amazingly for me and it will help you in your hobby as well!

Bought this thinking it would be great for my 30 gallon, heavily planted, Betta tank. Nope, it’s too powerful for the lil guy so I had to remove it. This filter works as advertised and is a great wave maker too, just not for a betta tank but that’s my fault and I am not going to knock down stars for that. One thing I didn’t like was how the filter was covered in charcoal dust when it came out of the package so give it a quick rinse when you unbox it. Otherwise, this might work great for a large reef tank or any tank that has fish with high flowing water. Again: User error on my part, only knocking down 1 star because it was oddly covered in so much charcoal that by the time I finished assembling it my hands looked like that of a mechanic’s.
