Q: Can these be used as replacements for fresh food produce preserver in kitchenaid refrigerators?

Produce Preserver for Kitchenaid refrigerators absorb ethylene gas. Our packets absorb ethylene gas to prolong freshness of produce. The mechanism is the same, but we don't know the size for Kitchenaid replacement kit. You can place our packets inside produce drawers for any types of refrigerator. Thank you.

Q: how frequently do you change out the packet?

It depends on the type of fruit and vegetable since each produce has different amount of ethylene gas that it emits. In general, you can change out the packets every 45 days. Thank you.

Q: Is there a way to activate then as needed? Or do they all start degrading at the same time?

You don't need to activate the packets to use them. They are ready to use. You can store the unused packets in a sealed bag. They won't start degrading. Once you place the packets with produce and later they become saturated with ethylene gas, they are not rechargeable. You can dispose them in regular trash. Thank you.

Q: How many 2g or 5g packs do you need to store a bunch of 5 bananas in a container please? Are 5g better than 2g packs etc?

One packet of 2 gram or 5 gram will be fine. 5 gram is better than 2 gram since it has more capacity to absorb ethylene gas. Thank you.
