Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People's Ears is a perfect book.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. The text, a West African tale, is perfectly written, and the illustrations are superb. I have read this book to groups many times, and I have used the art in the book to teach art to all ages. Certainly, Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People's Ears is a must-read for Black History Month, but beyond that, it is a perfect book all year long.

It’s even better than I remember!
Every page is awesome and full of color! It reminds me of the days that my Mother used to read the exact same story to me, and now I’m reading it to my little ones! I love this book! It means so much to me to have this be a traditional part of my family! Reading this classic tale to my kids and my kids’ kids, and hopefully one day to their kids’ as well. Smiles all around from this book! It’s awesome!

"...And then,..."
This is a suspenseful tale that starts off very innocently and then gains energy and purpose. I have used it as a teaching tool for 'Cause and Effect' among other literary styles. It never fails to hold students' attention. The inclusion of the African genre characteristic of enriching the story by repeating the imitative sounds of animals and their movements vocally gives life to the performance of this tale. You must understand that writing and illustrating were not part of the African folk tradition so the story teller had to give life to all that was included...even to inanimate objects. The sooner you can perform the story without the text the more you will enjoy your participation in the tale. I was well acquainted with the nuances of the story beforehand. This purchase was for my daughter to continue the folklore traditions with her two year old twins. They love it.

Odd Tool for Learning
This book has been in my life ever since I was a small child and it has been one of the most memorable stories I have ever read. The plot is odd and the characters do not have completely amiable qualities. I think it's a great learning tool to show children different ways that people or groups can solve a problem or come to an agreement, whether I agree with it or not. The illustrations are so unique and the ending is funny to anyone who has ever gotten an itchy mosquito bite!

Beloved
My son absolutely loved this book as a child. He just had his first son, so I asked him if we still had a copy. We figured out that we never did; we just constantly checked it out from the library. So my 3 month old son is getting his own copy for Christmas.
