This works better than many knife sharpeners I’ve used while working in kitchens. The bag it comes in is wonderful and sturdy, and the handle makes the sharpener look much more expensive than it was.

I needed a new steel for maintaining my knives. The price on this item left me a bit skeptical as it seemed low. Having received and used the steel now, my experience says the value here is very high as the steel performs very well and seems very well made. This will last me many year to come. Please read up on sharpening and maintaining knives if this is not a topic you know much about. This steel is not a knife sharpener, as referenced in many of the reviews. It will not take a knife from dead dull to razor sharp. It's for maintaining sharpness by honing - or realigning the edge of the knife. There are many quality sharpeners available. Check them out if that's what you need. Or find a professional knife sharpener and have them bring your knives back to sharpness. Then, use a steel to maintain them. Good luck.

My great grandfather was a butcher; whenever he would get a knife out in the kitchen, he would grab his steel from under the cabinet and run the blade over it a few times. The beautiful "ring" of the blade as it is precisely run across the tool was almost enchanting. I did not fully understand the necessity of this tool until much later in life, but to this day, the ring of the blade on steel is soothing to me.I recently spent hours honing all of my knives and bringing them back to wonderfully sharp edges. Any time I pull a knife from its storage to use it in my kitchen, I grab the steel and give it a few passes with the blade. After a couple of months of regular use, my blades are still as sharp and smooth as the day I brought their edges back.

When a neighbor saw me struggling to peel veggies one afternoon, he said needed to borrow the knife I was using. I thought his request a little odd, but he said it wouldn't be more than ten minutes and he'd finish the prepping when he brought it back, I gladly handed the knife over. He returned a few minutes later, handed me the knife and said "try it now". I couldn't believe it was the same knife! He then told me about something called a "steel". Following his advice, I ordered the Chefast steel. It takes some getting used to, but believe me, it's worth it! I have no prior experience to compare it to, but if a novice like me can get the results I've gotten, it must be doing an excellent job of doing what it's supposed to. Has made veggie prep a breeze and I feel like a real chef when I use it.

Great quality and works like it should! I’m a butcher cutting meat all day I use this constantly and it’s been exactly what I needed!
