Review: Passed the Test - I found the book to be very well written and easy to understand. It worked well for me as the self-study type. What I have found with many computer books is that if they are written well enough you can easily teach yourself the material. I used this specifically for its intended purpose of preparing for the 98-367 Security Fundamentals exam. I just took the exam and passed with an 88. I managed to stay pretty even in all four levels of testing. Although 45 minutes is allowed for the test I finished in about 10 minutes. One thing that the author may have done better is actually word the questions where we have to think a little more in depth. In essence, make them a little trickier. The practice questions were worded very straight forward. I found that on the test I had to think a little more in the way that they presented the question. Review: Four Stars - makes the class easier to understand.

I achieved the Exam 98-367 Security Fundamentals Certification.
I recommend this book; easy and clear to understand, and I absolutely knew nothing about this area of knowledge upon reading the foundations of this book. I had only 1 week until I had to take the test, and within that week I read over all the details of the book. I passed the test and it helped. Practice questions in the book are after every chapter, if you understand what was read then the answers should be easy; if not, you can reread the chapter until you figure it out. Some people say the exam isn't worth it but I think for entry level technicians that it shows that you have a overall understanding of the spectrum of how security works and this will definitely increase the chances of a job.

Skip this book...If you are only going to purchase one book only.
Just taken the exam, and this is review of the effectiveness of this book on the exam as of late September 2015. There are many terms that were in the exam, that were not present in the exam. There were materials covered in the exam that is not present in this book. This book essentioally stop coverage with the Server 2008, and everything that came afterward is not covered. It is past its required time to update the book to match more closely the exam material. I guess it was not a very good foundation book. I read the book from front cover to back and I found this book sorely lacking in retrospect. J have had other past experience with the servers and security which helped me, If I relied on this book alone I think I would barely pass. My recommendation is to get another book and use this as supplementary reading. BTW. many web sites that purport to have "exam dump" seems to be out dated. But, your mileage may vary. Test itself was not tough, I had time to go over the questions at least twice in the allotted time. My experience is that if you have enough working background with servers and workstations, this would not be a terribly hard test to score 70/100 = passing. But do get a better book. This book is dated and spotty in coverage of material. In my exam I had zero questions on CA and certificate process, and most o hard question came in permissions, shares, security zones and configuration of IE, and encryption. Just find yourself a better book, that would help you the most.... skip this book if you are going to purchase this book only.

Very good book on the subject of security
Very good book on the subject of security. It is not only used for preparation for the 98-367 exam but it good for the amount of knowledge on the subject of security specifically for Windows systems. Excellent. Great book to study for the CompTIA Security+ exam also.

Easy read
Super easy read and material. The Windows Server Admin book was a bit harder.

Not really what I was looking for
I was actually looking for a book that would help me to configure windows securely: PC platform. This book does not meet that requirement. However, I can't really blame them since I do not think I read closely enough what the book was for. I probably assumed too much.
