Great writing, fascinating book
Pat Duncan pays great attention to detail and brings to life the 1969 season in ways not expected to this football fan born years after this season played out. The immediacy and thrill of the season is there with the context needed to appreciate "the old NFL" before the changes that brought us the modern game. Couldn't ask for a better read.

The 1969 Minnesota Vikings - The Last Great Team of the Old National Football League
I truly enjoyed reading this flashback to the past which covered the 1969 season of the Minnesota Vikings; last kings of the old NFL. The book goes into great detail how the Vikings under the coaching of Bud Grant and the leadership of key players such as Quarterback Joe Kapp and defensive icons Jim Marshall and Alan Page rose to NFL championship greatness in 1969 only to fall one game short (the Super Bowl) of becoming one the greatest expansion teams of its era or any era. The author Pat Duncan does an excellent job of chronicling that season for the reader by explaining how they got there and recapping each game that took place that season. Along the way we are introduced to many of the Vikings players and their contributions to the team and why this was such a special team. I will say if you're a Vikings fan (I've been one for 50 years) you will thoroughly enjoy this book.

The 1969 Minnesota Vikings were a special team and perhaps the most dominant Vikings team ever assembled. I've had the privilege of getting to know several of the members of that team and Joe Kapp's "40 for 60" battle cry was more than mere words. While the stories of the 1969 squad have been told in other Viking history chronicles, Mr. Duncan's book finally gives it the focus it deserves and captures the magic of that great season. A must read for Vikings fans of all ages.

Vikings Glory Years!
Got this for my Dad who is a BIG Vikings fan and he LOVED it! It is an excellent overview of the good old Viking glory days. I would highly recommend for anyone that remembers the "Purple People Eaters"!

An enjoyable look back !
the team I grew up with. always a big Kapp and Eller fan. it was interesting to read the teammates recollections of that season. when they lost the super bowl ,I was stunned. I thought no one could beat them. but I was 9 years old at the time. the chiefs were too much for them. they will be my favorite pro sports team forever. I think anyone could enjoy this book , but if you were able to see them play it should strike a positive chord with the old time fans. I liked the game by game stats at the end of the book as well. well earned 4 stars. kudo's to Mr. Duncan...
