"If you are a true man, you will board this ship!"
The Leijiverse has grown and expanded since the classic "Space Pirate Captain Harlock," and this modern reboot brings it all up to date. The second story mentions the new space battleship Mahoroba. The third story begins with a brief narration from Emeraldas, and Miime appears as she did in "Harlock Saga." But the story is the same: future prosperity has rendered humanity fat and lazy, and when the Mazon threaten to invade, only Harlock and the crew of the Arcadia stand in their way. Long-time Matsumoto fans (like myself) and newcomers will love it!

Good Read!
I love Captain Harlock. It reminds me of Robin Hood but in space. The story does not take itself too seriously or get overly complicated. Captain Harlock and those who join him are heroes fighting to save earth from alien domination while evading arrest by corrupt government officials labeling them as villians. Captain Harlock is an enjoyable read.

Harlock 84 is my childhood hero. He is the ...
Harlock 84 is my childhood hero. He is the archetype of the romantic hero, fighting for justice and freedom and against cruelty. This Harlock is simply a futuristic version of Robin Hood and Che Guevara. The Arcadia is a place of debauchery not a safe heaven for the weak. He kills and steals for no real reasons, claiming freedom or justice....All this, while humanity has become lazy and afraid because of too much wealth...For fans of Harlock 84 and of its romantic appeal, stay away from this.

Make it happen, Captain!
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the OG anime man's man, Dimensional Voyage is a manga reboot of Space Pirate Captain Harlock. Leiji Matsumoto returns to write the new take, but with artwork being supplied by Koichi Shimahoshi. It is still set in the wonky timeline of the Leijiverse, which also includes titles like Space Battleship Yamato and Galaxy Express 999.Set in the very distant future, Earth has been invaded by various aliens, decimated in human wars, and run by dystopian governments. The current Prime Minister of Earth is a self-absorbed oaf more interested in his golf game than how humanity is suffering. The alien empire of Mazon ruled by Queen Raflesia is planning yet another takeover of Earth as they see it as their prophesized holy land. Outlaw pirate Harlock leads the crew of the starship Arcadia plan on confronting the Mazon forces and their double agent Paphio posing as the Prime Minister's assistant. The Mazons assassinate the scientist Dr. Daiba who threatens to expose their invasion, leaving Daiba's son Tadashi to join Harlock in his new crusade.Dimensional Voyage is a new look at the Captain Harlock franchise, although trying to figure where in the Leijiverse's history is slightly hard to put a pin in. Shimahoshi's artwork does provide the character a fresh boost for new millennial otaku, although the original series does still hold its own separate charm to it despite the updated look.

Beautiful, absolutely beautiful!
I can't recommend a contemporary manga more than this. This is absolutely beautifully done. I love the art, Kouiti Shimaboshi's style is very reminiscent of Matsumoto's yet still his own. Rare have I seen an artist in manga these days able to convey such feeling in a panel with no dialog. His flowing ink work is amazing. The story is written by Leiji Matsumoto himself (if you're unfamiliar with the master, this is a great book to start with), and his chosen artist is indeed very worthy. I loved every page, it captured the feel I had watching the original Space Pirate Captain Harlock perfectly. I give this my highest recommendation.

Finished the first two volumes in one seating easily. I honestly can't wait for more
Very well done. A retelling of the original Harlock saga, but fans will notice elements pulled in from various Harlock continuities. Finished the first two volumes in one seating easily. I honestly can't wait for more.
