Annette [Blu-ray] [2021]

As others have stated, you’ll likely either love this or hate it. I fall firmly into the love it camp, and have found re-watching to be like peeling layers of an onion. There is something new to discover with each re-watch.I’m a huge fan of the three main actors in this movie, so this was a no-brained watch for me. But now find myself an appreciator of Leos Carax, as well as the rock duo Sparks. What an amazing group of creators. I’m so grateful this film was made, and that I had the opportunity to watch it in the theater.I’m only sorry it was made in conjunction with Amazon, as it’s not being sold on BluRay or DVD in the U.S., making it impossible to watch if you are not a Prime subscriber. Badly done, Amazon. Unfortunately, this seems to be their modus operandi.

It's a musical. Like the bastard love child of 90s Tim Burton and Robert Eggers and Baz Luhrman and Gerard Way from when they were a polycule in another multiverse.

Great movie! Ron and Russell Mael are pure genius.

"Annette" es una película desconcertante, inquietante, sorprendente y provocadora. Entiendo tanto a los que la aman como a los que la odian porque todavía no he decidido de qué lado estoy. Pero guste o no tiene una joya dentro: Adam Driver.Sus monólogos, filmados en plano secuencia desde la larga y media distancia de una butaca de teatro, nos descubren su talla como actor total dominando el espacio escénico de un extremo a otro sin más herramientas que su propio cuerpo, todo fibra, nervio y músculo, física y metafóricamente hablando. Fuera de los monólogos, en las distancias cortas de la lente cinematográfica, contemplamos su nivel de expresividad gestual ante una cámara que se muestra despiadada con su huesudo y largo rostro sin enmascarar en nada su fealdad. El personaje que interpreta, más que hecho para su lucimiento personal, es un reto suicida porque ningún actor en su sano juicio se hubiera atrevido a poner en peligro su estatus escogiendo un papel tan en el límite entre la genialidad y la sobreactuación. No es de extrañar que no fuese nominado para los Oscar. En "Annette", Driver está más allá del rango de los Oscar.

Annette is an extremely bold, adventurous film. Probably a love/hate kind of affair I would imagine. It veers from absurdity to tragedy and everything inbetween and, whilst not every scene lands, i found it to be one of the most interesting films I've seen in years.Fantastic performances, amazing music (for the most part) and truly original. In an age where commercial artistic creativity is dwindling, Annette is a real jolt to the system.On principal alone it deserves the very highest recommendation. A truly kaleidoscopic experience. You may love it, you may despise it, but it's unlikely you'll forget it...

Be informed. Contrary to advertised, this blu-ray title is not region free. It's a Region B title. If you are in America, you must have a Region Free Blu-ray player.Other than that, the movie is another great and unhinged one by Leos Carax.

This movie is so original. Sparks are creative musical geniuses. I can guarantee you will never have seen anything like this in your life. All the cast in this movie should have won Oscar's. Ron and Russell Mael from the band Sparks deserve special praise for 50 years of hard work and drive, they are often overlooked in the world of music but this movie is a reminder of their special talent. Annette needs to be seen, it's epic.
