KitchenCraft Home Made Small Jam Jar with Lid, Gingham Design, 230 ml

I very much prefer these short fat little preserve jars, as opposed to the long thin ones; not only are they (to my eye) more visually pleasing but the wide mouth and width as opposed to length of the jar makes scraping out every last vestige of your delicious home made preserves a less messy and more efficient operation. I also prefer jars which hold less rather than more as there's less chance of air and mould action getting to the contents before you finish/get bored with what's in the jar - as I always use as little sugar as I can get away with, this is an important consideration as the more fruited less sugared jams get mouldy soonest. Gay little tops and non-metallic lids make these jars perfect for vinegar rich chutneys too, as well as jams, as the metal jam jar lids react badly with vinegar.

This is a dinky little, straight-sided sturdy glass jar with a cheery red and white gingham check, easy-screw lid, from Kitchen Craft.I prefer this neater size for my tayberry & loganberry jams, as I can split the yield between more jars making the batch go much further and doubly reward the effort of the job of preserving.Wide necked, it is possible to get a sensible sized spoon in and get the very last of the contents out...when the end is nigh.This size is also useful for storing a plethora of other kitchen foodstuffs in and because of their wide, squat build they also stack easily, if required.Measurements approximate based on my own:♦ Base diameter : 7 cm♦ Lidded diameter : 8 cm♦ Stands : 6 cm high♦ Capacity : 230 ml (0.5lb)Supplied in just a plain cardboard box, my maximum allowance of five made the trip safely despite no bubble-wrap or internal packaging!Other sizes in this range include: 440ml  & 580ml

I saw these while looking for jars for my homemade jam.I thought they'd be ideal for me, as I was lookin for something smaller than a regular sized jar.They are just the right size to give as gifts too!

They are very light and a little cheap in quality, however they suit the purpose for which I purchased them. Not sure how long the lids will last when I have to boil them to sterilse, but will see.
