Gunfire!: British Artillery in World War II
D**Y
Comprehensive and authoritative coverage of tactics, technical gunnery and selected campaigns
This provides a comprehensive guide for tactical and even technical gunnery, tactics and force structure for British (and by extension Commonwealth force artillery) in WWII. The first half covers weapons and tactics in great detail, and the second half covers selected campaigns, including France '40, Norway, El Alamein, Normandy, British Rhine crossing and Burma. As someone brought up in US artillery tactics and procedures, it was particularly interesting to compare with British practices, particularly on their approach for planning fires and for massing artillery. The only concern is some of the English is a bit difficult. On occasion, one has to re-read a section to work through an unusual choice of words. We're fortunate the author was able to provide an English translation from the original Swedish.

A book that shows the problems Artillery faced in warfare.
A book that explains as to the complexity of using Artillery in supporting, or preparing the area of enemy held fottications and associated ground defences, so that the infantry and mobile forces had a better chance of gaining objectives, or to shield those who needed to retreat when unexpected counter attacks, or far stronger forces suddenly appeared and a tactical withdrawal had to be made. An excellent book that allows those interested in finding out as to why certain incidents were helped by the gunners who had to suddenly make rapid calculations that involved matters ranging from how the weather, various height differentials, the wear of gun barrels, and the types of shells etc had to be rapidly calculated so as to deal with unforseen circumstances arising.

Excellent book on artillery during ww2
My father was a WO 2 during the war. This book details most of the information he told me regarding the war. Especially regarding retube 18 pounders, to become 25 pounders. The battles fought with 25 pounders are all detailed, and the move to SP gunnery with the various marks are all recorded.Recommended, five stars, Fast delivery and an excellent informative book!
