Frankie Boyle: Live [DVD]

intermittantly funny - likely to offend some people
Frankie Boyle won't be to everyone's taste. This DVD deserves its 18 certificate - there is a lot of swearing and some of the subject matter is, er, how shall I put this, quite rude. Boyle seems to delight in being extremely near the knuckle. He knows he's going to offend some people and he plays to that fact as much as he can. Personally, I think that's a bit of a shame. It's not that he isn't funny, it's just that I think he's funniest when he's not trying to be offensive, and of course being funny is his job, so I think I'd prefer it if he wasn't always trying to push the envelope of acceptability. I believe that deep down Boyle is very much one of the good guys, but he's always going to split the crowd.

Funtime Frankie - Live!
My taste in humour is very specific - I was brought up by two parents who simply loved The Goons - they let me stay up late to watch the original screenings of Monty Python as well! A lot of modern comedy does nothing for me at all, but this plain looking Scottish bloke who I saw on Mock The Week made me laugh with everything he came out with. A fair bit of the material on this DVD was shown on Mock The Week, but I still laughed out loud even though I'd heard some jokes before. His razor - sharp wit, timing and level of sarcasm are a joy to behold; there's no-one out there at the moment who even comes close to what Frankie does. If you're not sure how popular he is, just try and get a ticket for his upcoming tour - nearly everywhere's sold out, even with extra dates added at most venues. I'm one of the lucky ones - I booked early! Unfortunately he won't be appearing on Mock The Week any more, but I for one will be taking every opportunity going to watch anything he does on telly! A quite unique talent; very special indeed.

Brilliantly funny man
Great dvd. Not a new dvd but the only way you can tell is the references to the prime minister who we know has changed name and gender now. Still looks fresh as a daisy and on top form. Mega mega funny and do a few pence

"Mock the Audience"! very disappointing....
Frankie Boyle is a brilliant comedian, and without question the king of the one-liner. Unfortunately, on this DVD the liner in question is the Titanic. It is funny in places (not so for MtW viewers who've heard 75% of the same jokes on the show), but the constant picking on the audience for cheap shots makes this virually unwatchable. The whole show is simple this : one-liner.. "hey you, what do you do"... one-liner.. "hey big fella, what's your story"... one-liner.. "you, wee-guy, what do you do?"... one-liner... Fine, some comedians do pick up on a couple of audience members to rapport with, usually good effect - but don't make it 60% of your act! It feels like Frankie trudges his way through the entire first 3 rows of the auditorium. He is without doubt capable of better than this. Hopefully he's learned from this, so save your cash until a new DVD comes out.

The wandering celt
I like Frankie Boyle - he is\ was the best comedian on Mock The Week for his cutting wit. And I read his autobiog so I thought it was about time to watch his DVD.When you do - you can hear some of the lines that he used in his Autobiog begging the question - which came first. The DVD is funny as you would expect. And will undoubtedly cause offence to those who want to be offended. His interaction with the audience is great - and the "extras" of his travels are quite funny as well.So worth a watch. if you know Frankie already you wil not be disappointed.
