Well made, compact and smooth in use
I have a 2500 version of this reel which has worked well and been good to use. I wanted one to match it and after reading a review which said the 2500 and 3000 were very similar and had compatible spools I decided to buy a 3000. The only visible difference are the knobs on the handles and the spools. The 3000 spool holds more line but can be used on the 2500. They are also small and light so are good for carrying around. Both have drags that can exert up to 9kgs of pressure so will be able to handle any the lines you are likely to use on them. I have 8 and 10lb lines loaded and the reels work well with them. The drag is smooth and progressive so you'll be able to fish fine lines and leaders if you need to. They will cope with good sized fish on smaller rivers and lakes but they won't have enough line capacity for larger waters and larger fish. But since I'm using them on smaller waters I'm very happy with them, especially since there's less weight to carry. The picture shows the 2500 on the left, the 3000 on the right and for comparison a 6000 baitrunner at the back.

Excellent purchase
Was looking for a replacement spinning reel & this one fits the bill perfectly. It may be classed as a freshwater reel but purchased for sea fishing, my previous Garcia Mitchell 440a was 35yrs old & used entirely for sea fishing, still working but looking a little tired now hence replacement, just clean after use & it should be fine. Very smooth running & not missing the anti- reverse, highly recommended.

Broke.
I love the feel of this reel. Unfortunately after just 1 month I slipped and the reel dropped to the floor and cracked in half. Accidents happen but I would expect something with Shimano's reputation to be far stronger than this.
