These are nice quality and are one of the most convenient ways to hook up an RJ connector to a project box.

overall, they work and (in my opinion) make for a better solution than a pass through. They have a helpful wire guide with the A and B patterns on the side which saves time. With that said, the screw terminals are tiny and you have to access all of the wire openings from the middle channel between the rows of screw terminals. you have to strip each wire and put a small 90 degree bend and then wiggle it into the right screw terminal while you are tightening the tiny screw. Doable but really fiddly. The second issue is that the body doesn't fit a standard panel box. it is too bulky to slide through and when you un-snap to allow mounting it won't snap back. you have to either dremel out all the holes to fit or mount the adapter from the backside which leaves screw threads protruding into the box. Not a big deal but it is an ugly installation.

I bought a two-pack of these. Pin 1 is unreliable on both of them, even though it visually looks OK. It works on some cables and not on others, even though the cables all pass cable testers. As mentioned elsewhere, it's also awful to mount through a hole. Finally, the connections face inward, forcing all wires to take a sharp 90 degree turn in a very congested channel. They connections should be on the outward face. I'm going to have to throw these away. I bought them long enough ago that it's too late to return them.

I've been looking for a product like this for a while, and now I know why it didn't exist. You will notice from the photos that you cannot insert the wires from the outside of the terminal blocks. They must be stripped to a very specific length without breaking any strands. Bent 90 degrees at a very specific point in order to fit the stripped wire into the narrow channel between terminal blocks. Then carefully inserted without any of the stripped strands coming away, or any of the wires coming untwisted. It is a very difficult procedure to do well. Much more difficult than using punchdown blocks, or pass through IDC(Insulation Displacement Connector). And much more prone to shorts between wires. It would be much much easier to use this device if the terminal block entrances opened to the outside so the wires could be inserted straight in. That type of design would require the solid and striped wires of the same color to all be inserted next to each other in order to allow wider separation of the pairs, but still maintaining wire twist right up to insertion. That might limit each part to either Type A or B wiring with the type determined by the path of printed wiring on the circuit board. Also, this is referred to as D type in the description. These connectors are NOT D-type. D type refers to connectors such as 15 pin VGA, 9 pin serial, 25 pin parallel that have a D shaped grounded shield surrounding the pins and keying the connector.

First time I went to use one, things weren’t working, forcing me to troubleshoot other wiring, only to find out that the little spring contacts that engage with the Ethernet plug sometimes get dislodged from their track and don’t make contact with the plug. Using a knife I was able to push them back over into their tracks, but this is very bad for reliable connections. Once you plug it in and verify it all works, you’re probably fine, but if you’re plugging and unplugging, this is very annoying to say the least!
