A must read book
I want to express my gratitude and thank the author Subir Chowdhury for the book-The Difference: When Good Enough isn't Enough. It was an excellent read and refreshing at the same time. It was very informative and provided great examples that are core values in any setting that can be in family, work or social. But I found the book personable at the same time. I related in all levels that it helped me understand that I was not alone in being straightforwardness, accountable, thoughtful (working progress still) and resolve that makes up what is STAR.I see that we live in a world that doesn't appreciate these values. A good portion are looking for a quick fix to problems, that in due time will reappear again at another level as time goes by. I always believed to fix a problem you need to take the time to find the root and work from their to managed it. By being straightforward, thoughtful, accountable and resolved it can be beneficial for all parties. The book is instrumental for any person to read and learn how to put this in practice to resolve any issue at hand.Lastly, the author's grandfather was a wise man who taught him many valuable lessons to use and show others as well as his parents. Those values are more valuable than anything else. I'm grateful that he shared those memories in the book. It made me think about my father in how he showed me many lessons that I didn't understand, but now understand fully what he meant. He wanted all his children to be educated and succeed in life. We did, but I took it the furthest to obtained my MBA. I appreciate what I have in my life and thank those who helped me get to my goals. It's true the pen is more than the coin when you look at now as adults. So thank I Subir for making me re-evaluate my life with this book.Michael Medina

The Difference Maker!
I was attracted to this book by its title, as I felt that our company had fallen into a culture where we settled for "good enough." After reading this book, I immediately ordered another 80 copies to share with members of my team as I believe everyone, from top down, needs to start practising the STAR philosophy. I'm a big fan of Jim Collins "Good to Great" but I feel Mr Chowdhury's "The Difference" provides a better guideline on building a great company. Spoiler alert: I took Mr Chowdhury's grandfather's advice and wrote to Mr. Chowdhury after reading his book; unlike 40 years ago when it took months for a reply, Mr. Chowdhury responded immediately! I am grateful to have read this book and look forwards to spreading its teaching.

Lucidly written personal stories and journey. This book resonates with people who care about what they do and how they do it. Indifference is a malaise - and based on what was shared in the book and no doubt experienced by others - it is treatable using the STAR approach. Hope this book is read and internalized by people such as "Nick" before it is too late or more damage is done.Quality is not just a metric but a mindset/philosophy. Most people involved in improving quality (of life, product, process) can attest that small changes do have a big impact and STAR is a well articulated path towards Quality.

To the point explanation of the attitude you need to have to make a difference
Very useful for anyone looking to make a difference at work, even in life in general. Thankfully, not padded with irrelevant information just to make it longer in order to seem like a typical business book.

A lot of fluff
Some ok ideas but also a ton of the author tooting his own horn. Seems he has a bigger head than want to help his audience. Wish it was way better. Would not recommend.

This is a must-read
There is a reason why Subir has written this book, actually many reasons. And each one of them would be better than the next. Find out for yourself the reason for you. Anyone reading this book and having an understanding of Landmark and universal positive thinking will be very thankful they have.

Just glad it was short
Personally I had a problem with how many times he used I and me. It was like he was bragging about himself every page. That is just the way I read it it. Wasn’t all that interested in it to begin with so that may have been a problem. I would not recommend it. Think it can be summed up a lot quicker, maybe in an article on caring or something. He did reference some books that are worth reading. And by no means does he not know his stuff. It was just a little dull.

It was a very engaging book and refreshing to hear someone use what would usually be classed as emotional language in a business sense in striving towards a "caring mindset " .You don't need to be ruthless or harsh to drive success in fact the opposite is true. Being honest and straightforward along with really listening to those around you are just two key messages. Read the book to find out the rest ! Ultimately I try to teach my children to be kind and understanding so why would we not want to instil similar traits in our working life.

Some good anecdotes and insights
An easy read and a few great anecdotes and insights. The toothpick example is especially powerful. I would strongly agree with the authors assertions and his STAR principles but the entire content of the book could easily be distilled into a long article and be the better for it. Not worth a full price book fee and stretching to get 150 pages out of it.

An amazing experience....
An amazing book. Dr. Subir Chowdhury's "The Difference" is very well written and I finished the book on one go. After long time I finished a book within two days. The book deals with "STAR" principles and provide many instances where we can apply starting from myself. The book motivates me do some good work for mankind, even if how small it appears. The book also dealt with how to develop a caring mentality which is fundamental to make a difference. Dr. Chowdhury has given innumerable examples mostly from his direct experience which enrich the book enormously. In very simple and lucid word he delivered a profound wisdom. I recommend this book to everyone.
