This grabber is in 3 connected pieces that fold back on one another. Once extended and clamped into place, it stays fairly well, but I wouldn't try to grab anything heavy or slippery with it, like a glass jar of pasta sauce. A wine glass on a high shelf, on the other hand, it could handle with ease. I don't think it is sturdy enough for anything over about a pound or so. I tested it by trying to lift a 2.5lb iron gym plate. It held on but the shaft was bowing pretty badly as I raised it to knee level. With that said, it works perfectly for what I needed.

It works fine but magnets are not that strong.

This products works great as I am short and everything I need is always on a high shelf. Keeps me from using a chair or stool. Like that it folds up and had a strap to hang. Great purchase.

I wasn't sure about this gripper because I did not understand how it unfolded and if it was variable length.It is not variable length and is folded up into three sections that are not detachable. The poles are made of aluminum and a steel line goes from the trigger all through the rods to the clamp at the end. The hook and loop piece is there to hold it together when it is folded up and the leash at the back of the handle is actually usable and you should wrap that around your wrist so if you drop the grabber it is easy to get a hold of again.Mine the hook and loop strip came frayed but it can be replaced with more hook and loop strips down the road if you need or want to.The grip is tight and easy to grab and get hold of small items up to base ball sized. Even though the rods are not detachable when you put it together you can turn the grabber in any angle straight out in front of you. So you can have the fingers rotated at any angle you want, this is a nice feature and I was wondering if I could make the gripper change rotation when I was looking at this on amazon. You can but you have to do it before you lock it into place.There are two clips that flip over and push down to lock the poles together. The end that has the grabber arm, the two poles come together at hex type of ends that lets you rotate the grabber pole end to any rotation you need.There is no variable length so when you put it together it is as long as it will be and can't be shortened to fit a smaller grab reach.Both ends of the fingers on the outside have magnets attached so you can grab small metal pieces off the floor. I tried this and it works but they are weak magnets so do not expect them to hold large nails or screws, unless one by one. I was not impressed with the magnets though I like the idea of them.If you try to grab to heavy of an object like a box with heavy items in it, you will not be able to pick it up off the floor but you can pull it closer to you. I would say compared to plastic grabbers this metal one can pick up heavier objects but don't go over board with it. I did notice a heavy bend when I tried to pick up a box with a bunch of stuff in it, I do not know weight but less than 10 lbs.I do like the tread of the inside of the grippers. Very durable and makes holding onto and grabbing items much better than weaker or shallower pads of the cheaper plastic grabbers.Don't try to pick up heavy objects, it can handle a baseball but not a 10 lb bar bell or large items or small items that are very heavy. The magnet is not that powerful so picking up stuff that is metalic off your garage floor may or may not work well.

I’ve circled the sun enough times to be considered middle aged and bending down to pick things up has become more of a chore, so I ordered this to lend a hand in picking up the occasional litter blown into the yard before mowing the lawn, but it’s equally fun for those socks needing to go in the laundry hamper. Good grip, easy to use, and folds away nicely when not in use! Definitely recommended!

I have several items around my home that I have been able to benefit from having this 44" long grabber tool. I was super excited to be able to use this tool to grab down items off a shelf that normally I would need a stool to reach. The only real downside to this grabber tool I discovered is that the grip where the clamps meet is so small that it doesn't hold onto bigger items if they're too heavy. I had a smaller canvas frame fall behind my couch a couple months ago, and I thought surely this grabber tool could finally save the day. While small in size, the grabber tool just could not hold onto it long enough for me to pull it up far enough to where I could grab it. So, for now the frame remains behind the sofa waiting to be rescued another day.

Only one length (40"+) of reach is allowed. The arm is collapsible but not telescopic (minus one star). The snap connections for the 3 sections are solid. Small magnets, one on each gripper arm's tip, can pick up small objects (such as nail clippers).Nice features: wrist strap for safe operation and to hang the gripper; a nylon strap with Velcro to strap together the 3 sections when folded; the gripper arms, though stationary and non-rotatable once locked for operation, can be pulled out to adjust to position desired and then reinserted back to lock.
