Gerber Gear Shard XL EDC Multi-tool 6-in-1 Keychain Multitool with Pry Bar, Wire Stripper and Bottle Opener, Micarta

Ex-firefighter and current teacher here. Prior to teaching, I always carried a multitool on me, but carrying something with a blade into a school is frowned upon. So I purchased this from a brand I trust. It’s a great size, but like a tank, and has come in handy in more situations than I expected. The side of the pry tip is sharp enough to open taped boxes. The finish is unique and durable. My only complaint is that the pry tip does curve away from the the pocket clip, which sticks out just enough to catch your pocket on things that could lead to damage to your pants. I haven’t had this happen yet, but it’s probably a matter of time. All in all, worth it for a solid tool that’s safe in places you can’t take a knife or standard multitool. Another note: The tool is the Chonk, not the “Shard XL.” I’m not sure why it is marketed this way.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Gerber Gear Shard XL, but it has definitely exceeded my expectations. For such a compact tool, it feels incredibly solid and well-built—exactly what you want in something that lives on your keychain every day. The 6-in-1 functionality is actually useful, not gimmicky. The pry bar and flathead get used the most, and they’ve held up without bending. The bottle opener works perfectly, and the overall shape makes it easy to grip without slipping. It’s lightweight enough that I don’t notice it in my pocket, but sturdy enough that it feels like real gear, not a novelty. What I appreciate most is the simplicity—no moving parts to break, no bulk, just a tough little tool that handles quick tasks without needing to dig for a full-size multitool. If you want something minimal, durable, and genuinely handy for daily carry, this is a great pick. Gerber nailed the design. Highly recommended!

Shockingly useful lil guy! Well constructed and tough with a great clip and awesome pocket feel. Super happy with the micarta scales and topo print too.

Haven’t used it yet but it’s small and fits in a pocket. It’s there in the case of an emergency and seems of good quality.

I like the heft. It's got a good feel in the hand and feels of good quality steel. Pocket clip is nice as well

Never thought I'd actually use it, but it turns out this thing is actually useful. At 20 bucks it's a good deal. Works every bit as well as most of the fancy titanium EDC pry tools at a fraction of the cost. Most recent example of unexpected use: the tailgate of my pickup was frozen shut yesterday and I needed to access it. I have a bed cover installed and it was frozen to the top of the tailgate. Wedged the pry tool in a few different spots and twisted. It released after a few minutes. Not the best tool for any particular job, but the best tool is the one you have on you when you need it.

I gotta say I didn't have super high hopes for this when I ordered it because I have some pretty awesome custom Prys like a boker, lynch, etc. That being said Gerber is a great maker of knives and EDC gear so I had to give it a shot and boy I'm glad I did! This thing is basically perfect! TSA approved so I can carry it on the plane and I do all the time with no problems and it's just super handy and has a nice heft to it! If you're considering it just get it I love it! I kinda wanna get the other color one now too haha!

Its a gerber. I carry this like a pocket knife while i scout carry. Its very handy

Well made and slim, what I expected from Gerber. A little short for my big hands but that’s what I wanted for EDC in addition to my other items.

En verdad una maravilla !!! Vamos por partes, si te gusta el edc tienes que tener algo parecido, lo compre en oferta así que salió a super precio, si tienes que abrir algo como una lata hacer palanca es lo ideal, luego agarramos cualquier navaja o cuchillo y se terminan rompiendo este no podrás romperlo aunque quieras jejej dejo una imagen para que vean el tamaño el Bic es el grande el maxi, un bolígrafo normal y una linterna lumintop tool AA 3.0 , tengo manos grande aún que no gruesas en guante uso grande ella mediana no me queda y sale de la mano, si lo usas para golpear algo sobre sale del puño así que puede ayudar a romper cristales (ya lo comprobé y perfecto) lo he usado para abrir un cajón con llave que no tenía la llave pudo abrirlo sin romperlo solo hizo palanca suficiente para poder abrirlo,sacar clavos lo hace muy fácilmente, como destornillador plano tienes 2 medidas y es fácil de usar por qué es muy grueso no tienes el pendiente de que se rompa, la marca GERBER es garantía está mucho más grueso de lo que esperaba en mi caso pintare la mi carta de negro por qué prefiero ese color pero el verde que trae es hermoso, tienes que comprar uno es necesario tener un pry en tu edc y este es perfecto

Súper práctico EDC, no estorba, muy duradero, lo he sometido a altas presiones y no ha sufrido daño alguno.
