The Harbinger: A Dark Psychological Occult Romance

Another all nighter
This is a super dark and complex read. It's truly a very Occult book. There are many books that are themed with the Occult running through the storyline but this is heavy. It's an intense psychological experience. The fmc has no memory of her life just a few days before. Mia is a young American woman. She's homeless. She is starved for not only the basic things of humanity but she has no place to be. It's a fascinating experience of the wandering journey of amnesia and waking the f up. Upon meeting Sascha, a dark Russian man with incredible magnetic pull, she knows in her heart that he's very different. He's demanding and uncompromising. He needs her for something that she doesn't know about. There is plenty of angst but it's tolerable in the way it's a natural dance of indecision. A young woman with sleep walking and black out terrors finds comfort in the arms of her captor. As she learns more about the life Sascha doesn't keep a secret, she falls for him. To her his passionate beliefs prove his passion for something greater even if it's not the traditional sense. He's dark. He's dangerous. There are so many ways that he terrifies her but it's the outside world that scares her more. The Occult beats heavy and constant. It's not a secret society or a dystopian cult. This is a religion and a lifestyle that the characters do not hide in dark caves. They adorn homes with the paintings and statues of worship. Of course there's an altar yesssss. And such nasty and hotttt things happen on it.With the absolute perfect length of this book it's written so well that I couldn't put it down. I love a great standalone that has real meat in it's story. Yes this is a terrifying story of consuming, heavy heat and dark depravity it's raunchy but defined. It's a push into those flexible boundaries that exist in our minds and I jump for joy when I read it.

Very intense
The story behind this book was a good one, I have to rate it a 4 because of the ending. I was hoping for more after all the degrading aspects, it was much for me to handle but only because I'm not a fan of it. I just wish Sacha made Up for it all.

Umm, what did I just read???
This book had me in an absolute chokehold. Do not read if you’re faint hearted haha. It was dark and sweet and gritty and I am officially obsessed. Sacha was the epitome of morally grey. Well, he bordered on just straight up morally black. Perfect guy you love to hate.

To each their own...
I like my romance in the dark but this was a bit much even for me. It was kink HEAVY, which as someone in the lifestyle I generally enjoy, but the scenes were just way too long. This book could have been 200 pages shorter. These two also had a nonsensical amount of sex. When I'm reading, I'd like the characters to be overcome with passion before an act begins. These acts just seemed thrown in for the sake of it.I generally enjoyed the story until about 60% in, then I struggled to finish. Also did not care for the h's backstory. Not sure I would try another book from this author.

Wow
If a book could steal your soul this one would be the one. It was so good in so many ways. It was so dark and every part of it had me guessing. I loved how detailed it was and how the author didn't translate some of the Russian parts so it made you understand what it was like for Mia.

Good read!
This was my first occult type book and it was a great read. The FMC has memory loss and I thought the development of the character was very well done. I was not expecting the twists and turns that the author gave us. It was unpredictable and made for an entertaining book.

Beautifully written story!
The Harbinger was a deep and powerful story, at times too intense making me pause and digest and ruminate. Mia finds herself in a serious predicament, she has no memory, and is in dire need of her daily fix. So she approaches a man to ask for money and finds herself being whisked off to Russia with no explanation or thought. There she meets Sacha, an impressive and imposing man, who demands obedience and respect with a ruthless and tight fist.Mia and Sacha have a relationship that is so twisted and warped that you question the psyche of these characters, but more importantly my insanity of thoroughly enjoying what I was reading. This story contained sigils and high priests, incantations and ritual, and rites and passages of times long ago that have endured the ages.My heart broke for both these characters at times, for what they have had to endure, and what this means for their humanity. At times I was angry, I thought Mia weak at times, and at other times she was so, so strong, not bending to Sacha's pressures. Throughout this book I was cheering and hoping they would get their HEA, or as close as possible to happiness for them both.Beautifully written story!
