Some were broken when I opened them. I didn't mind so much because I had brought more than I needed for that very eventuality. So yes I recommend ordering in advance and opening right away to make sure you won't have surprises the day of the party.

Cool idea
We use them for my daughter’s baptism as you can see in the picture we put candies in front of it I believe the candies were a little too heavy for the wings my only suggestion for anybody who’s going to duplicate my picture is use a different type a glue besides a sticky
