Big, fast & noisy, no factory warranty
My 16tb drive has tons of room and is very fast, but it sounds at times like a freight train. I did not realize that noise mitigation is not a consideration for "Enterprise" quality drives which are usually within the confines of a server room. That said, the drive has actually quieted down a little since when I first installed it. Originally, it would make a random thump every few seconds, and a staccato drumming when accessed and on starting and shutting down. This is all due to a feature designed to prevent wear on the platters. It makes fewer of the random thumps now (or maybe I have gotten used to them) but still has the occasional staccato drumming. It can be heard from the next room from within my Dell SFF case. This is also an OEM drive, and, as such, carries no warranty from Western Digital. Should anything go wrong I will have to rely on the seller to make it right.
