The Very Best Of The Beach Boys

Beach Boys - Hawthorne Stomp
For Some Reason(s) Most People Think That I, Being A Native Californian ( Santa Monica ) And A Teenager In The 1960s, Did Automatically Make Me A Beach Boys Fan, Ditto For Jan & Dean And All Of This Hoopla Regarding The " California Life-Style " Not Always So Groovy Man...Sure, There Was Sun And Fun, But For Those Outside Our Borders, The California Dream Was Just That....A DreamI Do Confess To Being A Long-Time Dick Dale Fan After Seeing Him At POP ( Pacific Ocean Park ) And Started Buying His Records Which Were Readilly Available Long Before The Beach Boys Hit The Record Stores.( I Often Shopped At The Music Box In Santa Monica And Wallachs' Music City In Hollywood )It Was Not Until Much Later ( Very Late 1960s ) That I Brgan To Appreciate The Genius Of Brian Wilson, As Well As The Exquisite Harmonieis Produced By The Boys. ( They Were Also Involved In Several Jan & Dean Recordings )This One Is A Good Collection From CAPITOL ( EMI ) And Contains Most Of Their Wel-Known Recordings, Including Their Version Of " Barbara Ann " Which Was Never Meant To Be Released At All, Becuase It Was Recorded At A Party.( That's Dean Torrence On Vocals And The Ash Tray ) But Still Managed To Be A Hit Single* From 1966, Reaching A National Number Two ! ( CAPITOL # 5561 )( The Tune Was A 1961 Hit For Bronx-Based The Regents First Released On COUSINS # 1002 Then GEE # 1065 )Not Too Bad From A Bunch Of Guys Who Were Known In High School As Kenny & The Cadets, Then Carl & The Passions, And Finally The Pendeltones ( So-Named For The Then-Popular Pendleton Shirts )It Was Russ Regan Of BUCKEYE RECORD DISTRIBUTING Who Takes The Credit For Re-Naming The Group As The Beach Boys When They Were Getting Ready To Release A Single Through Bruce Morgan For X/CANDIX Records. The Label Was Located At 6425 Hollywood Blvd And Was Owned By William Silva And Richard And Robert Dix.(Bruce Engineered For His Father, Hite Morgan Owned The Small STEREO MASTERS Recording Studio On Melrose, With Some Of The Cheapest Rates In Town )Russ Regan: " The Boys Had Been Doing Some Demo Tapes Up At The Morgan House "" It Was Dennis All The Way, He Wanted To Call The Group " The Surfers " But We Found That Richard Vaughn At ARVEE ( Records ) Already Had A Group Over There "" It Was Dennis That Wanted To Do The Surfing Stuff, He Said It Was Bigger Than We Could Imagine "" We Were At A Meeting, Joe Saraceno ( A&R For CANDIX ) Murry Wilson, Herb Newman, And Me "" Herb Was The Head Honcho At ERA Records And He Would Handle The Pressing And Distribution For Us "" There Is Still Some Debate As To Whether It Was Joe Or Me That Came Up with The Name, But I Do Remember That Before That Meeting, I Had Mentally Kicked Around Some Names, And " Beach Boys " Was One Of Them "" You Know That Record Hit The Top 5 In Los Angeles ? "" CANDIX Couldn't See What Was Happening, So Murry Took Them To CAPITOL "Carl Dean Wilson: 06-February-1998 Musician, Composer, Vocalist,. They Are Not Related. There Was Another Ron Wilson That Collaborated With Brian Wilson.Great Compilation. Five Stars ( Just Like The Beach Boys )My Thanks To Bob Berryhill ( Of The Original Surfaris ) And The Late Russ Regan And The Hollywood Phantom** In 1963 I Had Gone To RCA To Meet With Greylon Landon And Had Noticed On The Lobby Key Several Listings For Indie Labels Housed In The Building. One Of Them Was DELTONE Records And I Took The Elevator Up To That Floor. I Then Had The Pleasure Of Meeting James Monsour, The Father Of Dick Dale.DELTONE Records Had Re-Located ( From Gardena ) To The RCA Building ( 6363 Sunset ) In Hollywood.Mister Monsour Showed Me Scrapbooks And Clippings Of His Son, Of Whom He Seemed Extremely Proud." Look At This " He Repeated As I Sat In His Well Appointed Office Suite " Here, What About This "Though I Did Not Ask, I Thought It Odd That DELTONE Records Was At This Locale When Manufacturing And Distribution For The Label Was Handled By CAPITOL.Those Were The Days. Try To Get By The Rent-A-Cop Stationed In That Lobby Today....

I have been meaning to buy a 'best of' the Beach Boys since i heard a compilation 8 track in my mates Vauxhall Viva in the late 70's, it took a while but got there in the end. Every track is excellent.

Klassieke pop nummers
Mooie CD, alleen klinken de eerste nummers wel wat gedateerd, maar bevat ook parels van songs.
