Star Wars: The Last Jedi: Bomber Command (Replica Journal)

A nice, well illustrated hard cover book for both Star Wars fans of all sorts and young ladies. The book is presented in a refreshing journal style from the perspective of Paige Tico who sadly did not survive the spectacularly opening scenes of the Last Jedi - not my favourite Star Wars movie due to Luke’s convoluted attitude to the Force and the Jedi, nevertheless the Rose and Paige side story is attractive.The book is overflowing with information about the Resistance, it provides detail about squadron personnel, there are schematics of the Resistance bombers, a fold-out overview of bombers across the Star Wars saga, a galactic map, a handy crash procedure manual and First Order personnel drafting advertisements! - it all feels quite plausible and I very much enjoyed the book. But hen again, I’m totally biased when it comes to Star Wars. My 11-year old literary enthusiast with a mild interest in Star Wars also appreciated the book, but was slightly less enthused - she told me has read better books. I wanted to use it for a guided reading session with our youngest, but the cursive/hand-written font does not lend itself well for that.

This is the companion to the Cobalt Squadron book. In this case the companion turns out to be so much better then that actual book. Yes the book is written for younger readers but it is, good straight to the point, and I learn more about the character in the (A5 size) 100 or so page book then I did in much bigger and much slower Cobalt Squadron book. yes the book has many pictures and foldout sections, these add to the fun of the book.This book is written as a journal extracts by Paige Tico. The older sister of Rose Tico, even though she did not get much screen time in the movie definitely showed her metal in the time she had. The books talks about her history, her own though on the resistance the leadership, her unit, and of course her sister. With as couple of extracts from Rose herself. Personally because of her part in the movie this was definitely a story that needed to be told. It had me from the start the first page. She lives bubble, the only people she can see are the enemy fighter trying to killer her before she kills them, and her only feeling is the recoil from the guns she is firing.This is the book Cobalt Squadron should have been, I think that book should have been written in Paige's point of view. This book cover their mission in the book as well as others, and condenses it down and give the important details so much quicker. My advice is do not bother with Cobalt and just read this one.

My reluctant reader fell on this and wouldn't put it down. Job done.
