40 days old, still goes for OVER 4 HOURS
The media could not be loaded. My husband loves these. This is our second and is far superior to the first (another brand which I got off Amazon). He's an engineer that loves quality and hates kitsch, so I was worried when I got him the first, but it looked and felt like a quality desk item. He loved it and ran it most of every day for a couple of weeks. It got slower and noisier, so I went on line and found this one. (At the time, it was ten bucks cheaper than the first but now they cost about the same.)He fixed the other so it ran smoothly again, but this one ran faster, more quietly, and much longer than the other one ever did.He still starts them both up each morning (heats up two Yeti mugs and then fills them with boiling water to get the maximum time). This one is still spinning smoothly at four hours. The other lasts about and hour and a half - not bad, but not as impressive as this one. The video shows them both at 90 minutes, just before the other one died. The old one is on the left, this one is on the right. This one is incredibly well built. It's a great diversion and a fun conversation piece.

For the science nerds and mechanics on your list...
I'm impressed with the design and construction of this engine. The materials and finish are beyond what I expected for an imported product. It works well. Recommended for all the science and mechanical enthusiasts on your list..

Neat
It might need a little push to get started but it is very neat

Decent
Had to take it apart and clean it to get it to run. Runs slower than the other sterlings that I've had of the same design.

Lightly clicks.
The fit of most of the parts are great. There are two lengths of stiff wire that connect the piston and displacer to the crank. There is a bit of play on both sides of these that lightly click when in operation. I don't know how or if this impacts the "performance" but it is present. The o-ring on the piston side was smashed and damaged during factory assembly. Seems to still seal so performance is fine.I currently have the unit set oppon a charger at work that puts off enough heat to lightly rotate the flywheel.Color wad great and the unit functioned right out of the box.

A HIGH PRECISION ENGINE
This engine runs flawlessly and is absolutely silent. It is made and engineered with precision, even to slightly offsetting the two cranks from 180 degrees from each other to avoid a top dead center condition. It is, by necessity, somewhat delicate in places so should be handled carefully.Well recommenced as a neat desktop gadget.I put this on top of y Yeti 12 oz cup filled with boiling water.2 1/2 hours later it is still running.PERFECT!!!

Fun for everyone
Works great with wife's morning coffee - always a conversation piece with company. With cold ambient air an fresh hot coffee, it gets some serious speed.... enjoy...

Buy the real thing!
The engine I received did not work. The O ring at the base of the piston cylinder was displaced and the cylinder was loose. This engine is an attempt to copy the U.K. made, Kontax engine. It has nearly the same dimension and similar appearance, but that's where any similarity ends. The bearings are inferior, and it won't operate with the heat of your hand, let alone from boiling water in some cases like mine which was defective. Save your money and buy the real thing from Kontax. It's worth it.
