Lonely Planet Pocket Madrid (Pocket Guide)
C**R
Packed with Useful Information!
I vacillate between Fodor's, Rick Steves and Lonely Planet usually opting for the latest publication date, especially post-Covid after many businesses shut down or altered their hours. They are all subjective and each has disappointed me with some of their specific suggestions. But Lonely Planet consistently packs in more helpful maps, necessary background information, and essential tips into its pocket guides. I don't turn to a pocket guide for 10-page historical essays or lavish photo spreads, but I do want detailed neighborhood maps, essential must-have information for key attractions, and enough description of neighborhoods to be able to book safe and convenient hotels and restaurants for first-time visitors. And Lonely Planet always includes a detachable map which is important when phone service isn't available for navigation. I've purchased this guide in preparation for a first visit to Madrid and it is helping me fill in the blanks for activities and daily itineraries. This is the one I will carry with me each day during my adventure there.

Small enough to take with you
Small and useful to take along. It has enough detail to get the most out of a visit and photos to help.

Basic useful guide
I have used several Lonely Planet pocket guides in the past and I generally like to plan a trip using these guide. It is also small and light so it is easy to carry around. I must say that in comparison to the other LP pocket guides that I have recently used (Barcelona and Paris), this one for Madrid was less appealing. It lacked some basic information (opening times for museums, free days for museum visits etc.).

Great guidebook!
Although my husband and I have been to Madrid many times, Rick Steves always has a few more tricks up his sleeve for travellers. We have come to rely on his advice almost exclusively.

Pocket size good , print a little small for older eyes
Used on recent visit to Madrid. It has all relevant information but prices for some things may have increased .The print on the maps was a little small but I’m sure it wouldn’t be for younger eyes .Useful book to have .

Good overview
This book was helpful for our recent trip to Madrid. We identified where we wanted to go before we went and the map helped us find our way roundTwo problems, not all the roads on the maps had names so that meant we couldn't always tell where we were and had to resort to Google maps. And the print in the book is a bit small, but I guess it's a pocket guide so that is to be expected
